Hello, I've recently been having some problems with anxiety and heart palpitations. I haven't dealt with a panic attack before today and its awful. I have a doctors appointment on Monday but today is only Wednesday. I wanted to know what I can do to hold out until then. Thank you - bfoxx
Hello bfoxx,
Sorry it has taken so long to reply, I hope my answer can still be of benefit to you today.
Heart palpitations and anxiety are horrible conditions to deal with, well done on making a doctors appointment, that is really brave and a big step in recovery.
I see from your ask you have never had a panic attack before, i found these two videos very helpful as an explanation and just helped settle my anxiety around a panic attack and what is happening.
There are many ways to deal with panic and anxiety; i will share some with you which i hope will benefit you in the future.
Breathing exercises: breathe in slowly and gently through your nose, then breathe out slowly and deeply, close your eyes and focus on this for a few moments
Count: Count to 10 or i find it beneficial to count backwards from 300 - it occupies the mind for a bit
Talk to someone: pick up the phone to a helpline, or trusted friend or relative… in the long run you want to find a professional to talk to. They will help you develop coping mechanisms usually through CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy)
Grounding: find something you can see, touch, smell, hear and taste
Yoga: regular practice will help overall with anxiety and panic feelings
Remember you are not alone and the panic and anxiety attack will always pass, you survived the last one and you will survive the next one!
I hope the doctor helped you but if you need more advice or guidance please come back and we can try and help you on your recovery!
Lynne
Keep sparkling xxxx
