Thank you and have a good and safe day!
person: damn, look at your hands
me, as if accepting a compliment: thanks, that's just my excoriation disorder, nothing too special
Certain patterns of behavior can feel like they’re strangling you, taking over your mind. It’s hard, but you got to keep on fighting.
it’s inktober and bfrb week so you know what that means
Happy BFRB week!!
Hey friends I know it's been forever and I'm sorry but idk I just don't really use tumblr as an outlet anymore like I used. I don't feel as connected. I'm active on instagram and facebook though, both of my accounts are Triumphant Trichster / @triumphanttrichster so if you wanna follow me there :) but I just wanted to say happy BFRB week 💚💙 though I don't really post on here, I'll still check messages. Feel free to message me for anything whenever 🙂💚💙
BFRB AWARENESS WEEK
*Trigger warning for trichotillomania*
I won't be going into tons of detail about physically pulling, but feel free to scroll past if it makes you uncomfortable.
It's BFRB awareness week!
BFRB's are Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours (I believe), this is an umbrella term for a few different disorders, but I'll mainly be talking about trichotillomania here, because that is what I have.
As far as I am aware, about 1-2% of the population has trichotillomania. That is where you feel compelled to pull out your hair. It can affect any part of the body and often the sites of pulling change over time. Personally, I pull the worst behind my ear, but 10 years ago when I first started pulling, it was my eyelashes and eyebrows. But over the years I have pulled out hair from every part of my body.
Here's the thing, trich is not a "beautiful" disorder. There is no way to romanticize it like with some other disorders. This means that people simply don't talk about it. To the point where I only found out there was a name for what I do a few years ago! Unfortunately this also means that there has been very little research into it. There is no "cure" for trich. There are various ways of trying to manage trich, but they don't get to the root (get it???) of the problem.
So I'm hoping that I can help people learn about trich! The more people understand about the disorder, the more people will be able to cope well with it if they come across it.
So please, if you have any questions about it, please ask! There's really nothing you can ask me about it that I wouldn't be happy to answer. I can also give some links to more information and other internet people with trich!

Body-focused repetitive behaviors like trichotillomania, dermatillomania, & onychophagia are common, affect people all over the world, and cause horrible feelings of isolation and shame. While research to find better treatments is underway, we CAN end the isolation and shame by raising awareness of these disorders. You can help by sharing this video. The BFRB community has come together to say, "#SeeMeStand for BFRBs." #BFRBweek2017. Learn more about BFRBs, find resources for hope and recovery @ bfrb.org.
