i decided to muck around and figure out how to do a multiple-Tav run through launching the game multiple times instead of using local multiplayer via controllers, and Whoops I Made More Dumbfucks
i like to treat my Tavs like potential origins and give them weird storylines and relationships so here we goooo
Isseth is my githyanki monk - unlike the very naive, militant and put-together Lae'zel, Isseth actually failed in her duties enough to earn banishment! HUMILIATING. She's been walking around the Material Plane for a few years and is extremely depressed about it. she's so mushy and cares about people now, eueugh. now she's desperate to silence her doubts surrounding her kind in favor of regaining their respect through curing herself and finding that Prism thing some of them keep talking about. Maybe all she really needs is a good hug and some better friends!
Delyathrin aka Del is my half-drow fighter (Goblin Slayer lookin' ass) - he's blunt, reserved, and very tired. he spent a lot of his time in the Underdark trying to escape and resolved to live strong and in spite of his upbringing, but got extremely tired really fast and decided to keep to himself near Luskan instead. he wears his armor to cover his heritage and hide his scars. he just wants to go back to his shitty, lonely life because that's a lot better than letting people in, but right now he kind of doesn't have a choice in the matter. I'm sure the fact he stabs first and asks questions later isn't going to get anybody killed.
Songbird is a very normal very alive extremely human bard and not a reborn bard (reborn in text only, in-game she has Human stats) - she's excitable, ready to experience anything and everything, and genuinely terrible at hiding her undead nature. she's ready to help, will help basically anybody who asks, and can't wait to get back to walking around the Sword Coast living life and pretending to be alive. Sure would be nice to have someone to share that with, though. Namely someone who wouldn't kill her for being an undead abomination.
Basically I just made a bunch of weirdos who could really benefit from having some friends. Just like the rest of the main cast!
very worried for this run, though, because their personalities have already cemented the fates of 3 of the main 6 companions.....
You said you made a comic about Songbird’s reaction to Astarion’s death? I can’t find it anywhere
I love your guys! Songbird reminds me of my own character, a spores Druid who is totally a normal human and not a colony of sentient fungus puppeting a corpse why would you even bring that up
ACK THANK YOUUU i already love ur sporer druid~
i didn't end up posting that comic yet so imma do that HERE (and do my usual "read more" so im not congesting the dash for those uninterested)
tee hee
doesnt follow canon events so much as it follows my queston of "what if someone walked in on this?". songbird's a reborn, so i imagine she'd notice the similarities between her and astarion IMMEDIATELY and not say anything because she knows what's at risk of being found out . she also "sleeps" (lays there, remembering stuff) as a way to blend in with her groups and feel like a living person.
i imagine she would pretend to sleep when she realized astarion was on the way back from hunting so as not to startle or corner him. once the bite attempt begins, she'd be a well of emotions of "do i wake up now? would it be awkward? if he's gonna bite someone anyway, it's best it's me since it probably won't hurt me, right? wit a second, doesn't he know we're the same? would it be awkward to wake up now--"
and by then, it'd be too late, because delyathrin would already be acting in a way he considers appropriate. in this moment, he sees one of the more vulnerable members of the group in danger against a member he already doesn't like, and has now that member is a vampire. undead. inherently evil. a danger to him. del, at this point, denies nuance in the face of danger because that's what he's had to do to survive.
and it unknowingly costs him the trust of someone he's growing to genuinely care for
isseth doesn't really react much in this, but as someone on the outside dealing with her own battle against everything she once lived by, she'll have her own thoughts on what's going on. namely, she'll be able to provide songbird with someone she can confide in, and she can urge del to break away from his harmful defense mechanisms.
i wanted to put a little bit of emphasis on wyll since i think this situation might be something he'd internalize, or at least think about more as a monster hunter himself. and ESPECIALY as a warlock. "no exceptions" isn't something i think he deals with easily, especially considering his "evil pact" was forged so he could save the people he cares about. he's no stranger to nuance, something his devil-hunting may be trying to strip away from him. something he'll face when he finally finds karlach.
For the BG3 Tav ask game, #5 for both the general and romance sections!
General 5: Does your character keep any secrets from the party to begin with? Do they open up at a certain level of approval? Or do plot events force their secrets out?
Romance 5: What's the culmination of the romance in Act 3? Does it happen early on, or after a certain point in their personal quest?
YOU DIDNT SPECIFY WHICH TAV HAHAHAHAHAH
my pool (i'll choose the most interesting ones if i get lazy):
answers below
GENERAL #5 -- Briar, Canary, Scarlet, and Songbird all have an important secret of some kind central to their stories! Leryk, Isseth, Delyathrin, Eckhart and Emerleigh do not have secrets central to their stories. Any secrets they have are entirely incidental or personal details they'll reveal with trust.
Briar Lockren: Briar will hide her bad luck curse and her past as a Cyricist from the party. This will be revealed in a scene where the player stumbles across her changing her bandages in Act 1, where she's forced to explain her situation. If the scene gets missed, it will be revealed during her Act 2 special event involving Cyrcists trying to drag her into a portal to Baldur's Gate. Once the player finds out the truth, they have the option to kick Briar out of the party or let her stay.
Canary Danavaria Highfall: Canary will hide her lineage as Lathander's granddaughter and being the daughter of a famous Aasimar. This isn't an earth-shattering secret, very similar to Wyll being Duke Ravengard's son, and comes up in conversation sometime on the road or in camp after the Raphael encounter. The player has the choice to say they had a feeling or that they had no idea - it's mostly a roleplay opportunity to boost one's relationship with her.
The Scarlet Scourge: Scarlet is actively hiding her actual name and passively avoiding talking about her motivations. Her motives - the artificer blueprints seared into her soul - are something she decides to reveal in Act 1 after an overworld event near Waukeen's Rest where she can spot and destroy an artificial rat watching her. Scarlet doesn't reveal her actual name until Act 3 after her personal quest is resolved - who she is isn't important, but rather the symbol of trust it represents is.
Songbird: Songbird is hiding the fact she is a Reborn. This is hinted at during a Perception check near the Owlbear Cave (much like the boar check for Astarion). It's 100% discovered in Act 1 where an overworld event near the Emerald Grove results in her stepping into a trap she doesn't notice until it's pointed out that she has a metal spike sticking out of her back. The player will confront her that night after noticing she hasn't actually been sleeping, but has instead been pretending to do so. The player can try to kill her, kick her out or keep her in the party.
ROMANCE #5 -- Imma do them all but I'll be quick about it
Briar Lockren: Briar's romance is solidified in Act 2 after the Cyric portal scene, giving the player a chance to show they're willing to fight for her. Her best ending involves her curse being lifted and her and her romance partner either setting out into the world to travel together or settling someplace quiet. The choice is up to the player, but both appeal to Briar equally.
Canary Highfall: Canary is one of the player's one can sleep with at the Tiefling Party, but she'll assume it's casual until they lock in during Act 2. This happens after she is confronted by the damning truth of her father's involvement and Leryk's unintended complicity in it - the player can reach out to her and try to understand her emotions, allowing her to fully open up. Canary's best ending involves her liberating herself from her father and setting out with her romance partner to continue her research at Candlekeep.
Leryk Copperlot: Leryk is a super slow-burn, where his romance doesn't lock in until Act 3 when Canary's father's role in the Absolutist plot is fully revealed. Leryk's best end involves him stepping down as Canary's bodyguard and allowing himself to be her equal, and joins the Harpers alongside the player if they wish to. He gets to choose what he wants for himself.
The Scarlet Scourge: Scarlet's another character the player can sleep with during the Tiefling Party. She won't lock in until Act 3 but she will have a casual budding romance throughout Act 2. It isn't until she tries to run away in Act 3 during her personal quest that she locks in with the player character (should they ask her to stay so they can face it all together).
Isseth Gis'tark: Isseth actually cannot be fully romanced, with her romance taking shape as a close friendship. She might seem like she can be slept with during the Tiefling Party, but she'll actually need to be tracked down since she got cold feet where her and the player can just chill out and meditate together instead. Isseth's best ending involves her either joining the fight for Gith or joining the player as an adventurer - whether or not there's a possible romance with her in the future is left up to player interpretation.
Delyathrin Aluvasil: Del's romance doesn't actually start until the end of Act 1 or beginning of Act 2 depending on if the player goes to the Underdark, but he throws himself into it quickly. This is either i the wake of comforting him in the Underdark or telling him they avoided it for his sake. He's a hopeless romantic once his extremely thick shell is chipped off. His best ending involves returning to Luskan to help other Menzoberranzen escapees with his romantic partner, who helped him find his courage in those he loves and feels safe with.
Songbird: Songbird's romance starts at the Tiefling Party where she can dance and sing with the player all night long, and is solidified sometime late in Act 2 (preferably after standing up for her against Balthazar, who's gonna be fuckin' weird and rude about her in some way). Her best ending involves her settling in with her romantic partner to take out the remaining fragments of the Absolutist plot in Baldur's Gate.
Eckhart Markov: Eckhart is one of the characters who can be slept with during the Tieflign Party, but he'll become weirdly distant and awkward at times until the start of Act 2. His romance can be nailed down very quickly during an argument with him after the Isobel fight where the player asserts their partnership as equals. Eckhart's best ending involves him taking to the seas with his romantic partner and Emerleigh to finally kill a kraken, like he's always wanted. After that, let's kill another kraken.
Emerleigh Markov: Emerleigh is one of the characters who can be slept with during the Tiefling Party, but seems to get unwittingly attached (much to her frustration). Her romance locks in halfway through Act 2 where she admits her feelings in a moment of worry for what comes next (which she also didn't intend and is VERY embarrassed about). Her best ending involves joining Eckhart with her romantic partner to kill a kraken and write the best goddamn songs about it, just like she's always wanted. After that, who knows what she'll sing?
I have. Too Many. Fucking Tavs that I've thought about as Origin Characters.
i considered drawing stuff for it but im neck-deep in drawing work rn and me hand hurty.... im sowwy~~~
How about 1, 2, 13, and 28 for the first OC that comes to mind?
tee hee~ thank u for the ask! i'll answer using my bg3 ocs since they're actually posted here lmao
questions from this post!
Question 1, for Scarlet & Briar: Do they sleep with a stuffed animal? If they have multiple, who’s the favorite?
CW: Child death :(
Though they don't share a playthrough, I felt my half-elf girlies would have the best answers!
The Scarlet Scourge absolutely sleeps with a stuffed animal. she received a red cardinal stuffy she named Beaky when she was just a little girl. though her late mother's legacy was complicated (instilled a lot of ableism that Scarlet had to work very hard to overcome), she still loved her mother and everything she tried to do for the two of them. scarlet was able to hold onto it as the only possession aside from her tools she kept with her through her life.
Briar, meanwhile, has an aversion to stuffed animals. sure, she had a wolf plush growing up, but her difficult adulthood has changed her reliance on them. i've written about it in my (currently-no-where-near-post-ready) fan fic chronicling her story, but one of Briar's first experiences with her bad luck curse involved the house of a doctor nursing her burning down. Briar very nearly got the doctor's daughter out only for the house to collapse at the last second. Briar was entirely unharmed, but the girl, Mel, died clinging to her teddy bear. Briar has a tough time with reminders of the little girl as a result.
Question 2, for Isseth & Delyathrin: Can they take care of a plant? What about a pet? What about a child?
None of my characters have kids or pets (besides Briar but Bagel barely counts as a pet), but 2 do have plants!
Delyathrin has a shitty little hut he lives in on the outskirts on Luskan. Wild ivy grows around the area so he's started taking care of it as it snakes along his house as a means of camouflauging his home and passing the time. He grows garlic to keep vampires and other similar monsters away. That, and he loves the taste of garlic. The dude LOVES garlic bread and eats so much he doesn't want to have to go into town all the time to get it. Everything else, he forages or hunts. Doesn't really eat mushrooms. Kinda hates them on principle and refuses to admit to himself that he actually likes the taste. They just remind him of the Underdark too much.
Isseth, on the other hand, has 1 little cactus named Porcupine. She got it as a housewarming gift from the woman who she used to live with when she first got stranded on the Material Plane. it's her little comfort cactus. she likes feeling needed by it, even if it's low-maintenance. it reminds her of the first time she felt wanted somewhere, even if she still struggles to feel at home.
both of them realize after day 5 that they're probably not going to be home in time to water their plants. fuck.
Question 13, for Canary & Leryk: Name one thing their parents taught them.
Parentage is a tricky subject for both these characters, but Canary seems to be the only character in my current BG3 roster who 1. knew her parents and 1. still has at least 1 living parent. wow.
Canary was initially raised by her mom in Neverwinter. from her, she learned how to fix shit she broke so nobody would know, how to take care of herself, etc etc. the greatest lesson that was imparted to Canary, however, was how to find joy in not knowing. Canary's mother always encouraged her curiosity, and taught her how to not fear what she doesn't know. Canary took this lesson into every aspect of her life: it made discovering her magic far less scary, it made learning engaging, and it made every day feel like a welcome challenge. this lesson was what gave Canary the strength to travel to Baldur's Gate alone after her mother's untimely death.
Leryk never knew his parents, having been sold off quite young, so he considered his bounty hunting mentor Luger a father of sorts. Luger taught him one important lesson: "If you're learning something in a fight, it's too late". Luger put a lot of emphasis on assessing targets and adversaries so strategies can be implemented in the fight itself. The need to improvise leaves one open. Be prepared. This actually lead to Leryk 1. becoming more strategic and guarded and 2. realizing Luger was going to cut him loose and hand him over to claim his bounty. This ended in Luger's head on the floor and Leryk's darkest moments of his life. These moments lead to Leryk eventually trying to take out Canary's father (Solas Danavaria) for a job, which lead to him being taken in after failing and becoming his most loyal guard. Every other lesson Luger taught Leryk, he's trying to forget or replace with the ones given to him by his new Lord.
Question 28 for Eckhart & Emerleigh: Would they date a fixer-upper?
Seems kinda self-explanatory.
Love this one because what else can I say? Eck & Em are codependent siblings who have been lying, conning and (in Eck's case) killing for YEARS. they're closed-off, unserious, and have only ever had casual flings due to being pretty emotional unavailable.
Em would have more luck with a fixer-upper because she's a lot smarter than Eck when it comes to matters of the heart. Sure, she's had a LOT of one-night-stands and situationships, but she's a romaaaaantic! And she has plenty of experience managing the emotions of both her and her brother. Now, I say "more luck", I did not say "good luck". This is why I've been wondering if Astarion really is the match for this mess. I fear a fixer-upper would become her pet-project, a means to ignore her own emotions by focusing on someone else's. whoops. there would be a lot of toxic sex.
Eck, meanwhile, is a "hit-it-and-quit-it" type of guy with very few exceptions. His type is usually the kinds of people who will be about as attached as he is. That's why Wyll is a much better fit for him, as someone he 1. already admires so is more likely to actually listen to and 2. someone who can actually be a fellow guy while also being a great example of how to be more emotionally vulnerable. if Eck tried to do a relationship with a fixer-upper, he'd quit SOOO fast. there would also be a lot of toxic sex.
Fucking Messing, these two. at least they KNOW that.
THANK U FOR ASKING THESE QUESTIONS i had a lot of fun answering :3 i know i meandered slightly away from the questions so please forgive me for that
deets under the cut bc i like writing about them and how they've changed
The Disgraced Pupil
You truly possess a warrior's spirit. Uh. Just as I do.
Githyanki, Drunken Fist Monk
Isseth Gis'tark has been wandering the Material Plane ever since she suffered the indignity of banishment. Now that she's been infected and caught wind of a mysterious artifact, she's become determined to redeem herself and earn her place in any creche that will take her. But the years away from her Queen and the disgrace she suffered has curdled her devotion into doubts. Caught between two worlds she does not belong to, what path can she possibly take?
If Isseth were a companion, her special feature would be immunity to the negatives affects of Drunkeness even if her class is changed and immunity to the prone effect.
My girl failure. The only one of my Tavs that doesn't follow my Incredibly Woke Trends of "Tall Sullen Bearded Guy" or "Short Busty Inquisitive Woman". Very forward-thinking of me. She's so deeply insecure and so open about it, but always at odds with her contradicting mindsets. Her two wolves are at war, pulling her between the githyanki warrior she was raised to be and the tender-hearted leader she's reluctantly becoming. Unlike Lae'zel, though, she's been around a lot longer and had way more drunken nights screaming into the void about it.
The Branded Knight
Sorry. I won't go along unless it's a guarantee.
Half-drow, Vengeance Paladin
Delyathrin Aluvasiil dedicated the first years of his freedom from Menzoberranzen to breaking chains and slaying slavers. Now, however, he's seen enough terrors topside to rival the Underdark. Now he just wants to cure his infection and go back to his life of paranoid seclusion. Unfortunately for Del, while he's certainly learned how to fear, he hasn't forgotten how to care. What an unfortunate combination right about now.
If Del were a companion, his special feature would be advantage against all drow enemies and the ability to walk over spiderwebs unimpeded.
Paranoia wrapped in tinfoil, that's Del. He plays it cool but holy shit is this dude paranoid. I love the juxtaposition between his controlled, coo persona and the rabid approach he takes to anything that freaks him out even a little. It's okay, dude, just ask for help.
The Patchwork Girl
This is most auspicious!
Reborn Human, Glamour Bard
Songbird's heart may not always beat, but adventure courses through her veins. She searches for new purpose after having left her creator behind. Her built-in edicts conflict with her desires and the memories of those whose bodies make up her own, that won't get her down! The possibility of monster hunters decapitating her does, mind, but it's best not to sweat the details. Right?
If Songbird were a companion, her special feature would be immunity to poison gases, immunity to sleep spells/potions and no need for camp supplies during a Songbird solo run (on account of not needing to eat, sleep or breathe). She's also very vulnerable to fire damage.
She really is the Girl of All Time. HORRIBLY unsubtle about the fact she's weird and fucked up even for a Reborn, and she thinks she's absolutely nailing it. very Resident Alien-esque. If someone asks her for help, no matter what they're asking, she'll always knee-jerk react by agreeing. Every time. She's so bad at this.
My dumbass squad. If I need a laugh. Yeah they have serious motivations and stuff, but these guys remind me that I definitely could be stupider.
