i decided to muck around and figure out how to do a multiple-Tav run through launching the game multiple times instead of using local multiplayer via controllers, and Whoops I Made More Dumbfucks
i like to treat my Tavs like potential origins and give them weird storylines and relationships so here we goooo
Isseth is my githyanki monk - unlike the very naive, militant and put-together Lae'zel, Isseth actually failed in her duties enough to earn banishment! HUMILIATING. She's been walking around the Material Plane for a few years and is extremely depressed about it. she's so mushy and cares about people now, eueugh. now she's desperate to silence her doubts surrounding her kind in favor of regaining their respect through curing herself and finding that Prism thing some of them keep talking about. Maybe all she really needs is a good hug and some better friends!
Delyathrin aka Del is my half-drow fighter (Goblin Slayer lookin' ass) - he's blunt, reserved, and very tired. he spent a lot of his time in the Underdark trying to escape and resolved to live strong and in spite of his upbringing, but got extremely tired really fast and decided to keep to himself near Luskan instead. he wears his armor to cover his heritage and hide his scars. he just wants to go back to his shitty, lonely life because that's a lot better than letting people in, but right now he kind of doesn't have a choice in the matter. I'm sure the fact he stabs first and asks questions later isn't going to get anybody killed.
Songbird is a very normal very alive extremely human bard and not a reborn bard (reborn in text only, in-game she has Human stats) - she's excitable, ready to experience anything and everything, and genuinely terrible at hiding her undead nature. she's ready to help, will help basically anybody who asks, and can't wait to get back to walking around the Sword Coast living life and pretending to be alive. Sure would be nice to have someone to share that with, though. Namely someone who wouldn't kill her for being an undead abomination.
Basically I just made a bunch of weirdos who could really benefit from having some friends. Just like the rest of the main cast!
very worried for this run, though, because their personalities have already cemented the fates of 3 of the main 6 companions.....

BOG has quickly become the book I return to the most (though honestly my favourite chapter really depends on which one I'm actively reading). Garv you sick fuck. going through each book, paying special attention to ANY character is so revealing, and Garv's such a fascinating foil to witness it's RIDICULOUS.
to me, Garv is SAD SACK.

The Weary Ranger

Half-elf, Gloomstalker Ranger
Briar Lockren is as skilled a hunter as she is sleepy. Which is very. Now temporarily freed from her supernatural bad luck, Briar's free to do what she's always wanted to do: hunt monsters and save lives. But what happens when she's free of the tadpole? And what does the one who cursed her have to do with this?
If Briar were a companion, her special feature would be the ability to impose disadvantage on an enemy during combat. Bad luck for you!
God damn Briar has had. a LOT fo design changes. And will have more. She's in-game a half-drow, but I rule her more as quarter-drow (you only see it in the white streaks and the pallid tone of her skin, it's a little bit greyish that makes her look a bit sickly). I adore writing her so much. My sneepy lil lady, she's so tired but so sweet.
The Dark Urge
I will deny this wanting.
Dragonborn, Blood Sorcerer
His name is his edict, and he will deny it with all he has. With only dark impulses and faded scars he cannot remember getting, the Dark Urge is determined to rid himself of his infection and unravel the mysteries of his addled mind. But with every bit of his past self recovered, how much of his current self will remain?
If MY Dark Urge were a companion, his special ability would be automatic passes on medical checks and a +1 to unarmed strikes.
I love all the different ways people interpret their Dark Urges! I don't see a lot of people talking about how they would characterize their Default Dark Urge, though. My DU is stoic and somewhat sullen, as his vibes suggest, but I've been having fun injecting humor into him. My guy sucks ass with names, rarely remembering them properly, and actually comes across like a try-hard when he's trying to be intimidating. He's also very prone to self-pity, especially early on. He's not nearly as cool as he looks, which I love.
I've been writing their story for a while now (I got about 12 chapters or so and I'm not at the Mountain Pass yet FUCK) and it's been really fun exploring their inner monologues and how they interpret circumstances! I love them. Easily my fave characters to write.

Githyanki, Drunken Fist Monk
Isseth Gis'tark has been wandering the Material Plane ever since she suffered the indignity of banishment. Now that she's been infected and caught wind of a mysterious artifact, she's become determined to redeem herself and earn her place in any creche that will take her. But the years away from her Queen and the disgrace she suffered has curdled her devotion into doubts. Caught between two worlds she does not belong to, what path can she possibly take?
If Isseth were a companion, her special feature would be immunity to the negatives affects of Drunkeness even if her class is changed and immunity to the prone effect.
My girl failure. The only one of my Tavs that doesn't follow my Incredibly Woke Trends of "Tall Sullen Bearded Guy" or "Short Busty Inquisitive Woman". Very forward-thinking of me. She's so deeply insecure and so open about it, but always at odds with her contradicting mindsets. Her two wolves are at war, pulling her between the githyanki warrior she was raised to be and the tender-hearted leader she's reluctantly becoming. Unlike Lae'zel, though, she's been around a lot longer and had way more drunken nights screaming into the void about it.

Half-drow, Vengeance Paladin
Delyathrin Aluvasiil dedicated the first years of his freedom from Menzoberranzen to breaking chains and slaying slavers. Now, however, he's seen enough terrors topside to rival the Underdark. Now he just wants to cure his infection and go back to his life of paranoid seclusion. Unfortunately for Del, while he's certainly learned how to fear, he hasn't forgotten how to care. What an unfortunate combination right about now.
If Del were a companion, his special feature would be advantage against all drow enemies and the ability to walk over spiderwebs unimpeded.
Paranoia wrapped in tinfoil, that's Del. He plays it cool but holy shit is this dude paranoid. I love the juxtaposition between his controlled, coo persona and the rabid approach he takes to anything that freaks him out even a little. It's okay, dude, just ask for help.

Reborn Human, Glamour Bard
Songbird's heart may not always beat, but adventure courses through her veins. She searches for new purpose after having left her creator behind. Her built-in edicts conflict with her desires and the memories of those whose bodies make up her own, that won't get her down! The possibility of monster hunters decapitating her does, mind, but it's best not to sweat the details. Right?
If Songbird were a companion, her special feature would be immunity to poison gases, immunity to sleep spells/potions and no need for camp supplies during a Songbird solo run (on account of not needing to eat, sleep or breathe). She's also very vulnerable to fire damage.
She really is the Girl of All Time. HORRIBLY unsubtle about the fact she's weird and fucked up even for a Reborn, and she thinks she's absolutely nailing it. very Resident Alien-esque. If someone asks her for help, no matter what they're asking, she'll always knee-jerk react by agreeing. Every time. She's so bad at this.
My dumbass squad. If I need a laugh. Yeah they have serious motivations and stuff, but these guys remind me that I definitely could be stupider.

The Crooked Twins
Love to kill a kraken someday. But I'll settle for you.
Zariel Tiefling, Swashbuckler Rogue
Eckhart Markolac is one half of the Undercellar's finest criminal duo. While his sister is the brain, he's the dedicated brawn. When he and Emerleigh find themselves in dire straits to pay off their debt, the road back to Baldur's Gate may very well be lined with proverbial gold! Can the twins make it back and pay off their debts, or will the Undercellar forever swallow whatever the tadpoles leave behind?
If Eckhart were a companion, his special feature would be the ability to traverse difficult terrain with no penalty and climb using half as much movement as it would normally take.
Eck is still the lovable rogue he's always been - sarcastic and guarded, yet fiercely devoted to the people he's chosen to protect. While that's only his twin sister at the moment, that bubble will grow along the way. He dreams of leaving the Undercellar and captaining his own vessel across the Sea of Fallen Stars. He thinks he's given up on it, of course, but the man's a dreamer through and through. He's calculating, but boy is he bad at math.

Em's the twin I've been working on the hardest since she's the least defined in my head. Now she's taking shape not just as an entertainer, but a gambler ready to take risks and live life to the fullest. She doesn't care what the future holds so long as it's with Eck and she can have fun. While she's still the more compassionate of the two, her love of the arts and the uncertain have her hoping she can turn the two's luck around... so you can imagine how hard she is on herself when her gambles fall through.
I love these two. Eckhart has changed basically not at all in my head, and I've been having fun reassessing Emerleigh's whole deal. She's still outspoken and fun, but her relationships and personal history have been something I've been considering deeply. I even changed where her face scar is, moving it to under her eye instead of across her nose so she has some twin-symmetry. Hell, I don't even know if she's still an Astarion-romance anymore. IDK. I'll see where it goes as I play!
