Navigating and Negotiating Intimacy @ The Sisterhood Summit!

We’re releasing the link to the program during our Twitter Chat this afternoon with Bondfire Radio, but thought we’d give you one more peak into the Summit.

This adult/educator/caregiver workshop is being facilitated by Lenee Voss, @dopegirlfresh on Twitter.

What do you wish someone told you about sex? What do you wish to create for yourself in intimate relationships? In Navigating and Negotiating Intimacy, participants will have the opportunity to explore and discuss matters of sex, intimacy, relationships, and healthy boundaries. Workshop attendees will walk away with tools and language to discuss intimacy, both for themselves/ partners, and the young people in their lives.

Almost all of the workshops this year are intergenerational, with a few set aside strictly for educators, parents and caregivers. This is a big change over year's past, which goes to show that we really need to have conversations amongst one another in a safe space and that youth and the not-so-young want to work together.

LatiNegra: Transforming Pain into Power

When you are a Latina of African descent, you are often made to feel that neither the Black nor Latina fully accepts you. This can be tremendously hurtful, but what if in that pain there was both personal and political power?

We believe that Afrolatinas have the potential to be lightworkers, building solidarity between the Black and Latina community. By virtue of our AfroLatinadad, we are uniquely positioned to carve out opportunities for solidarity between the two communities in this critical historical moment. We can lead the charge against anti-Blackness among Latinxs as well as dismantle destructive perceptions of Blackness among non-Latinos of the African diaspora. To fulfill this special and necessary role, however, we must do our own healing work around our racial identities. 

Led by three Afrolatina artists and activists, this interactive workshop seeks to start our sistren on this healing journey.  We invite all participants who are ready to turn any challenges they have with their Afro-Latina identity into radical self-acceptance and social action. Join us in engaging in reflective exercises, learning specific practices such as the Emotional Freedom Technique and beginning to build a community among ourselves so we can continue to support each other after the summit.

The Summit is pretty easy to access. We’re at 177 Livingston Street at the Brooklyn Center of SUNY Empire State College.

Right next to Macy’s and across the street from BBQ’s, we are accessible via the 2,3,4,5 at Nevins or Borough Hall, the 2, 3 at Hoyt Street, the A, C, F, R at Jay Street-Metrotech, the B, D, Q, and N at  Atlantic Center-Barclay’s.

Additionally, the LIRR is at Atlantic terminal, and a host of bus lines are within walking distance. You can find parking on Livingston, Nevins, Hoyt, Bond, and State Streets,a s well as a parking lot on the corner of Smith and Livingston.

Easy as pie.
