A lot of Sailor Moon fans are familiar with this anime-only prototype lovingly called “Fukano Moon”, a piece drawn by illustrator Yoichi Fukano when in the development stage for Sailor Stars

The 90s anime and the manga ran very tightly together, which is why it only loosely follows the manga’s plot and has a lot of its own designs, plot development, and further develops the girls’ characters more than the manga was able to. While the anime development team knew there would be one more final power-up for Usagi, Naoko hadn’t finalized the design yet, so Fukano designed this Eternal Sailor Moon that blended more of Sailor Moon and Neo-Queen Serenity as a sort of between stage—something I think the live action PGSM took inspiration for with Princess Sailor Moon.

BUT, Yoichi Fukano was an artist for the anime team for most of the series run, and started working on concept art for S, season 3, while R was running. Once again, Naoko didn’t have the Outer Senshi concepts finalized yet, so Fukano gave us these, which looks like they’ve been (re)discovered and passed around online recently:

Haruka almost had black hair! Hotaru was……not Hotaru! Word is that Haruka and Michiru would have been 14-15 instead of 16-17 in S, while Hotaru would have been Chibiusa’s age instead of 12 (Chibiusa’s physical appearance age in S and SuperS is debated, though generally agreed that she’s younger than Hotaru until she’s reborn)

I’m particularly interested that Pluto’s uniform is a completely different color—I wonder if these were designed prior to Pluto’s animation/color design being finalized during R. And so many of the boots looking the same, without some of the individualization at this point, is so wild

Also all the scepters are so different! I do enjoy the idea that Chibiusa inherited the Cutie Moon Rod, but I also respect the eventual decision to have her gain her own individual weapons as her character arc largely revolves around wanting to be like but also not the exact same as her mother.

I also really wonder what could have been if Naoko had shared her own early design for Sailor Saturn and if we might have seen Fukano put this to the anime’s style:

Started this as a simple dance illustration, and halfway through thought it might make an interesting homage to that infamous panel in Casablanca Memories. Trying out some new things here and there, too, but idk how it's working yet.

Second piece for the prompt list, and a rare M/K piece from me. This time the prompt was "Sunshine/Grumpy," and how could I not?

Though this IS pretty similar to an RJ piece I did a long, long while back, (itself based on a meme,) the concept was too good to pass up, imho.

Four days. four days. I don't know what to do with myself, now.

Done for the SenShi server's Prompt Table challenge. First prompt: Summer Festival, featuring my AU versions of (left to right) Zoicite, Makoto, Nephrite, Jadeite, Rei, and Ami having a battle at the fair shooting games. Also went extremely 90s with for Reasons, and don't regret it at all.

Overall, though, this was largely an experiment. I'm trying to get more comfortable with 'messy' art (ironically, i used to use a style similar to this but ended up toning it back down...) again, and play around with backgrounds/perspective.

Never Say Die!

Basketball here in the Philippines is almost synonymous to everything. From being a popular sport up to one’s first love. Yes, one’s first love, you read it right. Or maybe it’s just on my case. I can’t exactly remember when was the first time I picked up a basketball but I sure can precisely explain the feeling. It is so addicting that it will even make you be willing to play barefoot or even under the scorching heat of the sun.

Sadly, since entering college my playing time were cut short due to other commitments but I make sure to be always updated about the game I love, especially my favorite teams. If the title has not yet given away my favorite team then you really are grinding my gears. Joke! Yes it is Ginebra, since day one. For those who’s not really into Philippine basketball, Ginebra is one of the clubs who are playing at the pro level locally.

Man, who doesn’t love Ginebra? No haters, I am not referring to you. This club is arguably the people’s team for the better part of the local basketball scene’s history. Its rich history from players down to every single ruckus fans who always come to support even hailing from the farthest of regions. And I am proud to say that it is my first and only team to support through thick and thin. It has its fair share of bumps and bruises in the league, having their last championship to date back in 2008, my high school days.

Alas! The long wait is over. Ginebra is back in the finals. I know it took almost a decade for them to climb back at the top, but who am I to complain. I am just glad that they’re back. Really glad. And at the top of that, I just fully realized the meaning of “never say die”. Hence, this is it, the unwavering resolve to push through no matter what the odds say. Now, let’s finish this with hoisting a trophy shall we?
