Hav heared about Marys Iosama? How do u think she would be brought in to a sequel?
I’ve actually answered a question quite similar to this one here. :)
But to add onto that, if she were to be a new character for the sequel, I imagine she might be new to San Fransokyo. And since she’s also a genius, she might start school at SFIT. Hiro meets her there and it just takes off from there.
I wonder how Daniel Henney would feel playing Tadashi as a villain? I'm sure he would give it his all & I think he's played villains in his other movies...but to take a gentle character and make him ''evil'' I wouldn't know how to feel about that ._.
Idk, I feel like Daniel Henney would have a good time with it.
It could be hard though. We know the type of personality Tadashi had and to bring him back and for him to have this completely different personality could be hard. It would be like voicing a different character. But it would still be Tadashi deep down and I don’t think they would keep him “evil”.
I have no doubt Daniel could pull it off really well
I don't know about you, but the second they put out the trailer for the sequel, and we see Tadashi in it, I'm gonna stare at the screen for a full 10 minutes, then say out loud ''Is this a joke?!'' (oh goodness I'm getting way too ahead of time xD)
Hahahahaha I’ll probably do the same thing XD
The entire time I’m watching the trailer, I’ll be like, “C’mon, give us some hints of Tadashi…show me the nerd c’mon c’mon pleassssse.”
And then if there is NOTHING relating to Tadashi at ALL, I’m just gonna stare at my screen….
“…WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME WHY WHY WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU, DISNEY?!?!?!?!”
But then imagine if there IS something relating to Tadashi.
I WOULD SQUEAL, SCREAM, ARMS WOULD BE FLAPPING AROUND IN THE AIR AND A BUNCH OF GIBBERISH MUFFLING
“VIVA LA TADASHI!”
Weeeeellllll, I don’t say VIVA LA TADASHI for no reason XD
Truth be told that when I first saw the movie, despite how awful it was that they killed Tadashi off, I in my own way accepted it I guess. I’ll never forgive Disney for killing him off. I have been able to forgive Disney for every death previous to BH6, but I drew the line at Tadashi. I never really thought about the idea of him returning.
And then I went on the BH6 side of Tumblr. And I see all these ideas for the sequel and how Tadashi could be the villain and how he has amnesia. “Wow, people really took that ‘look for a new angle’ advice seriously”. And of course with Tadashi naturally being my favorite character, I instantly liked the ideas of him coming back.
But of course with that idea of Tadashi returning, there are so many concerns. I want it to be done in a very elaborate, well-thought out way and not some, “oh during the fire/explosion, he found a vent and escaped and has been hiding in the ground all this time”. Heh, I felt stupid just typing that. This is a futuristic city; I need a futuristic explanation of how Tadashi miraculously survived the explosion.
So if I had to break it down on reasons for each...
Reasons I WANT Tadashi Back:
Even though a lot of us see it coming already, it would make one heck of a plot twist regardless.
A lot of mixed emotions. Baymax’s scanner (especially with Hiro) will be diagnosis after diagnosis.
Maybe we’ll see it coming...but Big Hero 6...Tadashi is the LAST person they’d ever suspect to be the villain. Even if he never died, they’d never think he’d be capable of such chaos.
Instead of trying to beat the villain and put him in his place, the team will want nothing more than to try to get the villain back on their side and remember who he is. You know Hiro is going to have something that will trigger memories.
Because while as sad as it will be to see, Tadashi will be suffering from something. His burn scars, most likely going deaf, some form of PTSD, a combination of them all even. It would be nice to see a character, especially one that we remember as being so patient and understanding, feel so frustrated over not being the same anymore. Representation is important. And showing people by his side to help. Oh goodness, Hiro helping a now deaf Tadashi and he makes him hearing aids made for his ears only. “You didn’t have to do this for me.” “Yes, I did. None of the hearing aids you tried worked for you. Sign language is not that same as talking. Someone had to help.” A thoughtful gift for all the times Tadashi looked out for him. :D
Because he’s Tadashi freaking Hamada and deserves a second chance at life despite the fact that running into the burning building was his decision. He’s a good person. He was only doing what he felt was right. LET HIM LIVE.
Cuz gosh darn it, I love that nerd and I’m not giving up on him. Nuff said.
Reasons I DON’T WANT Tadashi Back:
While his death was sad, it ended with the team helping people as superheroes in honor of him. Tadashi would be so proud of them all. It’s just kind of a meaningful message.
I know Disney could bring him back. But how are you going to explain how Tadashi survived the explosion and manage to pull it off well? The junior novelization basically implied that Tadashi was crushed by a falling beam (ow it hurts just thinking of that as his fate). We’re gonna need a REALLY brilliant way for him to survive that. I have faith in Disney, but I have his feeling it won’t be done in said brilliant way. I know they won’t let him survive for a really stupidly done way, but I’m afraid it won’t be done as great as could be. Keeping him dead would be easier than ‘looking for a new angle’ as to how he survived.
Of course my personal feelings would get in the way of it as much as it does with me wanting him back. Tadashi is back and all is well, right? Wrong. He’s not completely happy. He’s hurting emotionally as well because he felt like he hurt his family and friends so much for leaving them behind. And then he’s dealing with permanent burn scars than won’t ever go away and probably being deaf, and suffers a lot of symptoms of PTSD and it’s killing him more than his once presumed fate. Again, Disney can’t go too dark, but you know they can show some of how he feeling in a ‘Disney friendly’ way. Small part of me doesn’t want to see Tadashi suffer like this even though it would be great representation. He just doesn’t deserve to feel worthless because he is worth so much. (I still want that representation though. I want people to be able to relate to an amazing Disney character emotionally; it would be so important)
My final standing: BRING BACK TADASHI BUT DO IT IN A WELL-THOUGHT OUT WAY. IT’S TOO EASY TO KEEP HIM DEAD. BRING HIM BACK AND GIVE HIM HIS OWN ANGLES TO LOOK OVER AND GET SUPPORT FROM. IT’S IMPORTANT.

TADASHI
Ok tough question: In the sequel (excluding the main characters) which of the side characters would you like to see get a little more screen time? I personally want Aunt Cass or Yama. In the original story draft, Yama was supposed to have a much bigger role, and even though he only got a small one in the final movie, he was still funny (albeit a brute). It would be great to see more of him. Aunt Cass I already stated my reasons in a previous post
For sure Aunt Cass. I’ve stressed out my fair share on it too, but I need more interaction with her and Hiro. I want to see just how close they got after Tadashi’s death.
I honestly believe that if there’s a big enough time skip, Hiro would have by then already told Aunt Cass about Baymax and Big Hero 6, and while Aunt Cass may not totally approve of it, she’s seen all the stories on the news about it as well as the things in the paper and she couldn’t be prouder. So, I believe that she will have a bigger role. I will be so disappointed if there’s not some serious conversation between her and Hiro. I NEED THAT. I need proof of their aunt to nephew relationship and how much closer it has gotten overtime. Whether it’s her trying to hold Hiro back from doing something extremely dangerous before going to help the city or them having a conversation at night for whatever reason like it’s become a regular thing, I NEED IT.
Reunion
Hiro: You were alive this whole time?!
Tadashi: You turned Baymax into a weapon?!
Hiro: Call it even?
Tadashi: Okay!
So, what are your thoughts on the sequel to BH6?
Honestly? I thought I’d be overjoyed, and I am, to an extent, but I’m also very, very wary...
All the rumors about Tadashi coming back are absolutely unconfirmed. The article that claimed that just picked up the popular Sunfire fan theory, and no one official has said anything.
Now, don’t get me wrong, as a fan, I would love nothing more than for Tadashi to come back. But at the same time, from the perspective of someone who wants a genuinely good film, they’d have to do it so incredibly well for me to be happy with it. I completely understand people not wanting him to come back, for fear it’d destroy Hiro’s character development, and also reduce or even negate the process of grieving for a lost loved one in the first film.
The only way they could bring Tadashi back, and have him add instead of take away is for them to somehow push the idea that sometimes, people are better off preserved in memories. We all love Tadashi because he was portrayed as absolutely perfect, ideal, in the very limited time we had with him on screen. Yes, fandom has fleshed him out into a more 3D character, but he didn’t have many canonical flaws. Or perhaps that’s how we saw him, seen through Hiro’s eyes. If they brought him back and gave him more new screentime, Disney’d have to absolutely destroy this image. They’d have to have him traumatized and ruined, and possibly disclose some not-so-perfect things he’d done in the past, perhaps while alive, and Hiro’d have to deal with the fact that his perfect brother wasn’t all that he seemed. In the official Japanese manga, it’s heavily implied that Tadashi was willingly involved in project Silent Sparrow prior to the accident, and that might be a route they go. Or another thought, perhaps it wasn’t Callaghan manipulating Tadashi, as some fan theories have offered, but Tadashi manipulating Callaghan in a larger, much more sinister scheme. Either way, there’d be a lot of discovery and acceptance on Hiro’s part, and I think this could be pretty interesting without ruining the messages of movie 1.
All that being said, I grudgingly admit that it would probably be possible to do a 2nd movie without bringing Tadashi back, but perhaps filled with lots of flashback scenes of their childhood, perhaps with their parents (explaining what the hell happened to them). The one thing I think would be absolutely horrid is if they showed Hiro having completely moved on, with zero reference back to Tadashi. I don’t think Disney’d do that. I hope. Gosh I’d be horrified and never watch their shit again if they did.
That being said, I have a lot of other things I’m worried about too. I remember seeing a post about how Hiro physically grew taller throughout the 1st film, and I think I also remember Ryan Potter saying in an interview that it was really tough for him to do a 14 year-old kid’s voice. If there is a second film, I’m pretty sure there will be a time skip, and Hiro will be older, probably later teens. That’s awesome; I love time skips and I bet he gets really hot. That being said, I’m terrified that they’ll introduce a new female character, or possibly Gogo or Honey, and turn it into a teen hormones romance thing. I don’t give a crap how people headcanon his sexuality/romantic preferences/gender, BUT I NEED HIM NOT TO BE SEXUAL/ROMANTIC ON SCREEN. I am sick and tired of shallow teen romance, and there are enough unexplained and interesting plot points and characters and family/friendship relationships to show in the story that I don’t need that in BH6. But I’m scared that that’s one thing Disney might think is a cool idea if they have an older not!little kid!Hiro.
This one, I have little to no hope, but I also desperately hope that they can do a little bit better on representing Japan/Japanese culture/Asian American culture if they decide to keep it set in San Fransokyo or New Yosaka or whatever the hell new Japan-hybrid location they can concoct. I wrote a huge rant on it here, and although it bothered me to begin with, the more I think about it, the more absurd and hurtful it is. I desperately hope that Disney doesn’t fuck this up again, because they did, royally, and it hurts so fucking much and I don’t want to deal with that a second time.
But most of all, I’m very wary about a sequel because a canonical sequel has the power to destroy, or at least weaken people’s beliefs and acceptance of headcanons. BH6 was great, but there are tons of places to fill in with our imaginations, as there are in any piece of media. BH6 also had tons of problems, as noted above. Headcanons and fanworks are an important place where we can fill those gaps. In addition to it being a really cruddy plot, having Hiro being interested in a random Mary Sue would destroy a ton of shipping headcanons. Bringing back or not bringing back Tadashi in a certain way will render tons of possible theories permanently “AU”. A sequel is wonderful, because it can provide us with more material, and we are of course allowed to ignore it--but “canon” is a very hard idea for some people to fight against. So yes, the announcement of a sequel does scare me. A lot.
DISNEY DON’T FUCK IT UP.
