I found it a bit funny you said in your tags "too bad bi Stiles isn't canon" because to me he was totally bi. I'm sure it was unintentional on the writer's part but I, as a bi person, totally identified with some of his jokes and such as a bicurious/closeted and hinting to others about my sexuality teen. Again, probably unintentional but he came off as low key bi-coded to me. It may be fanon but bi Stiles is real af to me.

I am not entirely sure which tags you are talking about, anon (possibly the ones on this post?), but I 100% agree with you that he was bi-coded, especially in the earlier seasons. My tags were more irritation that he was never made explicitly bisexual in the show. He never said “I’m bisexual” or “yeah, I like guys, too.” We never saw him go on a date with a guy or kiss a guy or anything to make that subtext actual text. It was all just hints.

Fanon is great, don’t get me wrong, and I am all for headcanoning characters as whatever sexuality you like. But we’re still at a point when we need clear, explicit queer representation in our media. And TW, IMO, kind of dropped the ball on that with Stiles. People were praying for them to make him explicitly bisexual because the show was dropping all these hints and a lot of people watching were craving that representation. But the show always backed away from actually having him say it or having him do anything that would make it absolutely obvious he wasn’t straight.

I know that TW had more queer characters in later seasons, but I have no idea how that was handled. What I do know is they had the opportunity to make Stiles–arguably the show’s breakout star and a major character for almost the entire series–openly, canonically bisexual, and they never did it.

Remember the club scene where Sheriff Stilinski tells Stiles that he’s not gay?

This scene has caused a lot of debate in the fandom, and I have talked about it before - about how Sheriff Stilinski saying ‘Not dressed like that you’re not’ is not about how gay guys dress but how Sheriff Stilinski knows Stiles wasn’t there to pick up guys becasue Stiles has a tendency to dress to impress. 

That aside, let’s talk about Sheriff Stilinski’s parenting skills. 

He know’s Stiles isn’t gay becasue, despite Stiles’ belief that he can get away with everything, Sheriff Stilinski knows a lot about his son. He knows that Stiles dresses to impress (like that time he showed up at Derek’s wearing a suit jacket for no reason or when he wore his tough guy leather jacket in that scene where Derek pushes him up against the door instead of one of his hoodies like he usually does). And he also knows that Stiles has had a crush on Lydia since the third grade, so that kind of messes with Stiles’ excuse for being at a gay club. 

But that doesn’t mean that he doesn't think Stiles likes guys.

He knows Stiles isn’t gay; he knows Stiles is bi.
