Jesus or the bible never said anything against homosexuality?? EDITED
It seems that when I first posted this, It brought about some confusion and I'd like to clarify with this edit
I'd like to start off by saying I have homosexual friends. I'm also Christian and will defend my faith. Although, I have homosexual friends, I do not agree with their lifestyle (THIS IS JUST MY OPINION). I'm not saying I don't like gay people. I'm simply stating that I don't agree with the lifestyle and here is my argument.
I recently saw a picture post were Stephen Colbert said: Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. nextyearsgirl added to the post by saying
"When you quote Leviticus as god’s law and say they are rules we must follow because they are what god or Jesus wants us to do, what you are really saying, as a Christian, is that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was invalid. He died in vain because you believe we are still beholden to the old laws. That is what you, a self-professed good Christian, are saying to your god and his son, that their plan for your salvation wasn’t good enough for you."
Even without the bible, by nature I believe homosexuality is proven to be wrong.
We all have a natural will to live. Self Preservation.
We can only do so if Man and Woman reproduce.
So by our own nature to live, I feel homosexuality is wrong and unnatural. (ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS JUST MY OPINION)
nextyearsgirl quoted scripture to prove a point that homosexuality was an Old Testament Law that was done away with because Jesus came and died for our sins. So we no longer have to follow the Law.
“His sacrifice was supposed to be the ultimate act that would free us from the former laws and regulations and allow us to enter Heaven by acting in his image”
THE FOLLOWING IS SCRIPTURAL PROOF THAT THE THE BIBLE DOES SPEAK AGAINST HOMOSEXUALITY. THEY'RE NOT MY CHOICE WORDS, BUT THE WORDS THE BIBLE USES TO DESCRIBE IT.
Yes, Jesus did come and sacrifice Himself for all of our sins so that we all may be forgiven. It did not “free us” of universal moral Laws. Jesus' sacrifice freed us from secondary and ceremonial laws. Understand, that in the Old Testament Jews had their own cultural traditions and ceremonial traditions. God placed the decree against homosexuality among having sex with parents and animals. These are morals that even non-believers may find repulsive or unnatural (again, homosexuality in the bible was placed together among things like sex with parents and animals). God said all of these things are detestable and a perversion. These were all universal moral standards of Law.
nextyearsgirl also mentioned:
“When you quote Leviticus as god’s law and say they are rules we must follow because they are what god or Jesus wants us to do, what you are really saying, as a Christian, is that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was invalid.”
Wrong! Here's what Jesus said Himself:
17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.
Jesus didn't come to do away with the Law! In fact, He raised the standards. He said:
Matthew 5:21-22 (NLT) “You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgement. But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgement! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.
Matthew 5:27-28 “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery. But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
So it isn't only the Old Testament that speaks out against homosexuality.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or anyone practicing homosexuality, no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.
Jesus dying for us did away with secondary and ceremonial laws and only applies to those who believe in Him and what He did for us, and turn away from their sinful, unnatural, and perversive ways. It's the Old Testament Laws that remind us and shows us what sin is and that we are all sinners. Jesus' sacrifice cleanses us of those sins by grace through faith in Him.
"His sacrifice was supposed to be the ultimate act that would free us from the former laws and regulations and allow us to enter Heaven by acting in his image."
YES!! Jesus teaches us to turn away from all sinful ways and follow His ways. Sexual immorality and homosexuality are NOT acting in His image!
