bibliophilebabe said: ugh that’s so gross. you’re awesome and you shouldn’t have to put up with that, no one should!!  i know. like i suppose most of the people who i guide don’t mean to be offensive, they are quite often complimenting me on my strength and bravery. but they do it the wrong way, it shouldn’t be said just because i’m a woman. and it’s no wonder that the outdoor business is so male dominated when women are faced with this everyday. like it’s so wrong that we so strongly associate guides and extreme sports with males. and i have heard so many stories of female friends of me, who similarly to me, have been out guiding large groups of tourists. and they have been training for years, and then they have this male friend with them who isn’t trained at all, and they all look at him for directions and ignores her. and it makes me so so mad

chimes, warmth, stories!

chimes: what sounds are your favorite?there are so many sounds, i’ve made a list on my listography which i’ll copy here:

early birdies

crunching leaves on brick pavement

the clingling sound of putting a tea-cup back on its saucer

wind rushing through the tree tops

shoes on the graveyard gravel

trickling rain on the windows

squeeks of baby animals

the lapping and smashing of ocean-waves on the shore

someone practicing an instrument late in the afternoon

both the whispers and sleepy breathing of a loved one

the "click" a key makes when unlocking a lock

warmth: what do you find most charming in others?passion, i guess. i find it very beautiful when people are passionate about certain things; whatever sort of interest really, a person, history, life-goals, talents, anything! whether it’s a quiet and introverted yet sparkling passion or when one has the ability to share it with others (i do love it so when one talks passionately of their interest(s))

stories: books you remember from your childhood?first and foremost would be the books/poems from annie m.g. schmidt, but there are so many more such as the books from road dahl, the minpins, matilda, the witches. books from astrid lindgren such as ronja the robber’s daughter, pippi longstocking and the brother’s lionheart. a.a. milne’s winnie the pooh books. and also the books from dutch writers jan terlouw and francine oomen! oh, i feel very nostalgic now. i think i might fish them out of my bookcase and leaf through some of them now :-)

2: How long have you known your best friend?i do not consider this particular person to be my best friend but we have known each other for 15 years

14: Do you prefer to read poetry, write poetry, or neither?i definitely prefer to read poetry, i’m not a writer myself of any kind and although i feel pretty bummed about not being able to express myself through writing i take great relief in reading. when i feel like i can relate with certain poems (as well as other writings ofcourse) i feel like i’m expressing myself too in some way, if that makes sense! and ofcourse i also immensely enjoy reading poetry because of its magic and beauty, of the feelings (evoked and rooted in) and, well a whole lot more which i cannot seem to translate from thoughts (and feelings) into words right now, but i’m sure you know it all too well

Genre(s) that you write: Narrative poetry, historical poetry and a bit of historical romance!

WIP: I wrote the first chapter of a WWII romance for a creative writing class and I may continue it, but it needs quite a lot of work, haha. I would also love to do a series of poems in the point of view of women from Shakespeare plays. I wrote one in Ophelia’s point of view for her death and my creative writing teacher loved it so much, he’s reading it to his future classes!

Scott Fitzgerald, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, The Scarlet Pimpernel by  Baroness Emma Orczy Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, Mrs. Poe by Lynn Cullen, and there’s so much more that I can say!

Favorite Character(s): Jane Eyre from Jane Eyre, Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, Ophelia from Hamlet, Hamlet from Hamlet, Sir Gawain from The Tales of King Arthur and there are so many more, I’m sure but I cannot think of any! But I love a lot of book characters and I’ll probably remember more as I fall asleep!

Five things about me:

1. I love historical fiction, especially if it takes place during WWII, the Titanic, anything with knights./maidens (Or in the world of King Arthur)!

2. I own the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe, F.Scott Fitzgerald, Jane Austen and The Brothers Grimm.

3. I always have to listen to music when I am reading. I make playlists that fit the book I am reading. For example, I listened to a lot of Adrian von Ziegler as I read A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. It just made it so much more amazing!

4. I have been to Victor Hugo’s house in Guernsey and have been in the room where he wrote Les Miserables! 

5. I have a beautiful necklace with an Edgar Allan Poe pendant!

hello emilia!! as for music i associate you with kate bush (how could i not) but there’s also something about the cocteau twins that makes me think of you as well as florence welch’s beautiful songs. as for a movie i can’t choose between either jane eyre or effie gray, both movies contain such beautiful costumes and scenery and millais in the latter definitely reminds me of you and your taste in art!
