Way to go! I also saw an article today about washing machines made in this same way of mechanical energy. There is something about pure human energy being used to do work. It cant be explained but only felt. So many applications can be done today with these simple tools.
Our obesity related diseases will come down. We don't have to spend most of our savings on healthcare and we will also save money by not buying so many electrical contraptions.
Awesome chap.
MAYA PEDAL: Bicimaquinas
(via Impact Design Hub) “Bicycle Machines in Guatemala,” profiles the incredible work of Maya Pedal. The income-generating devices range from blenders to milling machines, and in addition to clever engineering, director Mario Juarez has succeeded in fostering pride in manual labor. We especially appreciate the vantage point Makeshift has taken in creating this film, which Editor-in-Chief Myles Estey explains:
“Whenever I’ve gone to Guatemala, it’s been to cover tragic, dark topics of violence, malnutrition, corruption, or life in a garbage dump. Though these are realities of the country, Bicimaquinas to me shows the other, more common reality, less captured in the news. That of everyday people working hard, making the most of their surroundings and putting so much effort behind something that will help their specific community.”
Totally awesome video about this amazing project - Bici-Tec
