When Xisuma recieved Biffa's farewell letter the morning after his departure, it was clear to everyone that X wasn't the same.
It was as if someone had flipped a switch; the once giggly mess of a man became somber and professional, all expressions wiped from him like a mark in sand. Wels, the one who had first recieved the letter from Biffa with the order to take care of Xisuma, was the only person who really saw any emotion from him.
This emotion, of course, came in the form of tears. Every night for a month, X laid in Wels's arms and weeped for hours before finally falling asleep due only to having burned all his energy on crying. He became attached to the knight, visiting whenever he could just to feel Wels's hands dry his tear-stained cheeks.
Wels was beautiful, gracious, and gentle... but X still wanted Biffa. He wanted them both, actually, just like it had been before.
A few years and several gauntlets later, Xisuma saw a figure on a distant hill, near the very edge of the hermits' territory. It was limping, ragged, and weak from battle, but X could recognize that familiar glint of fuchsia armor either way.
There was nothing that could tear them apart now. Chest to chest, cheek to cheek, they fell onto the wild grass, their cries somehow quieter than their pounding hearts.
And Wels sat beside them, a hand on X's side, and they were whole again. Three men with one soul.
Biffa didn't stay with them, amongst the hermits. But he stayed close by, where X can visit whenever he wants. Wels visits too, though rarely without Xisuma (who jumps at the opportunity to visit whenever he can.)
It's good for them, even if it hurts Xisuma's heart at times. They need to learn to be together again, and let go of past hurts. But they'll get there. They always will.
