card games: what are some that you know + their rules please
i’ll go first! big two/choh dai dee (four players but variants for fewer/more players exist)
remove the jokers. everyone gets 13 cards, suit rank (lowest to highest) ♢-♣︎-♡-♠︎, card order (lowest to highest) 3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-J-Q-K-A-2
the person with the lowest card (3♢) starts by playing any one hand of cards:
five cards (ranked lowest to highest):
straight (five consecutive)
flush (five in same suit)
full house (triple + pair, triple counts for ranking)
straight flush (five consecutive in same suit)
the first hand played must include the 3♢
the next person plays any hand with the same number of cards in it. the highest card in their hand must be higher than the highest card in the previous person’s hand.
play continues until someone plays a hand nobody else can beat. then, whoever played the unbeatable hand gets to play another hand of any number of cards (eg. game started with single 3♢. someone plays the single 2♠︎, they can then start again with a single, a pair, or a triple, or a five card hand) play continues with the new number of cards per hand.
when someone runs out of cards, the round ends and points are tallied:
0 points for running out of cards
1 point per card up to 7 points
2 points per card if 8 or 9 cards left in hand
3 points per card if 10, 11, or 12 cards left in hand
52 points if all 13 cards are still in hand
whoever gets 222 points first loses.
