George “Shorty George” Snowden and Beatrice “Big Bea” Gay (Ask Uncle Sol)—Okay, so everybody (Lindy hoppers) talks about Shorty George Snowden but his partner, Big Bea is a bad ass too. She dances so hard she invented the Lindy hop. Look at this man scrungle so hard he invents the Lindy hop [editor’s note: these two were submitted separately but since they work as a team in this routine, I’ve put them together as a scrungly unit like Laurel & Hardy or Bryant & White.]

Big Bea's real name is Beatrice Gay. She was part of the first generation of Lindy hoppers (swing dancers), and often danced with "Shorty" George Snowden. The movie they are in there is actually called Ask Uncle Sol. (Snowden dances with a different dancer in After Seben, which is the first recorded instance of Lindy hop!)

They had a schtick (she's real tall! he's so short!), but they were some of the best dancers of the generation and real innovators for jazz dancing. I'd like to put in a shout out to all my jazz dancing scrungles: Big Bea and Shorty George, Frankie Manning, and Paul White & Marie Bryant. (Also CAB CALLOWAY, who does not need my help.)

Victor Jansen (The Doll)—I was looking for a scrungly clip to submit for Ossi Oswalda but actually he did me in as the puppetmaker in The Doll: very scrungly wig and a silly-looking man indeed.
