Notes on Favorite Beers/Breweries
Olde Enqlish 800 - I used to drink these 40s back to back. I might get nostalgic and drink another someday. It’s just an effective way to drown. Good way to have a drinking problem. My favorite malt liquor.
Gulden Draak - My glorious introduction to Belgian beer. They make a few beers and they all taste wonderful.
Rolling Rock Extra Pale - My favorite cheap beer. It’s just crisp and a little sweet. Good American lager.
Pabst Blue Ribbon - People talk a lot of shit on this, but I truly like it. It’s another perfectly cheap beer. Crisp and nothing else, really.
Kirin Ichiban - I used to find this cheap at my local liquor store. I love it. Probably my favorite popular Japanese beer.
Asahi - I used to buy 24 packs for cheap. If you’re in California, buy that pack at Marukai’s supermarkets. Somehow, they usually have it for under $16.
Goose Island Honker’s Ale - Very nice ale. I would get it most times I could find it on tap. Slightly complex and barely bitter.
North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout - Creamy, deep, and a little sweet. It’s also got a good alcohol content. Tasty way to catch a buzz.
Craft Brewing Company has a nice, crowded tasting room in their facilities. Check it out, if you can. It’s up the street from Lake Elsinore’s outlets. My boys and I had some of our best times drinking there. I like EVERYTHING they make. If you ever see their beers in stores, buy it. Their logo is a group of warlocks holding up a pint.
Sons of Liberty Aleworks in Norco makes lovely beers. They have so many lovely beers and stay making interesting IPAs, if that’s your thing. Their George Washington Chocolate Porter is a revelation. The local make for a nice crowd here, too.
I really loved the vast majority of craft beers in California, except for those trying to push the bitter hop supremacy. I’m all for bitter ales, but it shouldn’t be a damn contest. I find I love a lot of craft beers here in South Carolina as well. If you pass by the breweries I mentioned and like beer, please stop by. They are a little hard to spot, but worth finding. There is good beer in the Inland Empire. I know because I looked around and really dedicated a lot of time to developing my palette for good beer. The list above were more like go-to beers for me in different situations. Don’t get all snobby on me. There’s no place for that when enjoying such fine products.
