over a year ago, i bought my wife two pairs of wide leg chinos before the trend became mainstream. funny enough, they were on final clearance at urban outfitters. she got in her head about them and gave them to her mother. my mother-in-law got bloated after staying in china for 90 days and just gave them back to me. i insisted my wife try them on before work and she suddenly loved them. this is the norm. i buy her clothes, she hates on them for a year or 2, then finally sees the vision. it is very seldom she can appreciate me styling her in real time. she is exceedingly lucky in this sense. i am exceedingly lucky she is so gorgeous.

i took my MIL out on the town last night. we started with a chore by selling some old clothes at the thrift. after that, we power walked both stories of our local mall. then we went for frozen yogurt. she found pineapple dole whip to be too acidic. i loved mine, even if the zero sugar vanilla yogurt underneath was a little too sweet. i bought her new night cream and eye serum. we also walked a country park with a lot of trees and horses on the land. i am glad she convinced me to walk outside, despite the heatwave. she had the best time.

i went out to dinner with my wife’s new friends the other night. they are lovely people! i am somewhat surprised relieved she is making actual friends at school!

i am having people over for justdance tomorrow. it will be a small aerobics party. i see it more as aerobics than dancing. my closer friends love coming over to exercise together and have snacks. my wife has to study too much for school lately, so i am glad i can bring friends to our home in a way that allows her to workout in a group. i will have to clean house a bit in the morning, but it will be more than worth it. i am glad there is a videogame with decent dance music that has choreography that works as guided group aerobics. i am somewhat surprised it’s not a bigger deal with adults. hahah

my friends are planning a group beach trip. i am so relieved at the people who are actually going. i think it will be a great trip. my wife and i are both excited. i think it will turn out to be a nice trip. hopefully we can get everyone to agree to take that friday off. should be great otherwise.

I actually think that science fiction has done everyone a disservice by presenting escaping to another planet as a remotely feasible near-term solution to problems on Earth.

Like, I’m sorry, but if terraforming Mars is an option then why can’t we just terraform the Earth?

(I mean, this last bit isn’t actually a great argument, because a lot of techniques proposed for terraforming involve such things as smashing asteroids into planets, blocking out their view of the sun for decades at a time, or seeding the entire planet’s surface with novel extremophile bacteria, which would be unthinkable on Earth; but the point still stands! It would be vastly easier to restore Earth to a healthy climate than to make Mars even as habitable as the peak of Mount Everest)

As Mars is fuck-off far away, it’s really expensive to send even a robot the size of a compact car there, half of all uncrewed missions there fail, and we don’t even know how to land a crewed one yet.

They’re talking about a city on Mars. We don’t even have a city on Antartica! And Antartica is 10000x more hospitable, because it at least has breathable air and readily available water. And Antartica can have an actual supply chain feeding the necessary stuff to it rather than needing to plan rockets. But no one ever suggests colonising Antartica to solve overpopulation, because its so obviously inhospitable and it would cost so much to set up a city there. Still so much better than Mars.

Or cities floating on the ocean! Or cities in the sahara desert! Or cities in orbit! These are all terrible, terrible ideas, but each one is far more feasible and practical than a colony on Mars is.

Did you see anything about how china returned Przwalskis horses to it’s steppe and effectively halted desertification bc keystone species can do stuff like that? Technically terra forming, perfectly doable to engineer/ restore all sorts of earth ecosystems, and SO MUCH MORE FEASIBLE than anything that can be done on Mars.

i was never passionate about the old debate of which season is better due to the clothing and styling options.

this summer is objectively bad due to the heatwave. i hate it, despite having the baggiest outfits i have ever had for summer in the south.

that being said, i love fall and winter. i have never missed my hoodies and jeans so much. i can’t wait for fall.

maybe i will change my tune after a group beach trip.

i have been fairly consistent with run club, so athletic clothing isn’t helping with this argument.

maybe it’s just the heat wave, but i hate dressing for the heat so much it is making me miss the cold.

i am wishing everyone health and luck throughout the heatwave.

i am getting quite good at pokémon champions. i can’t deny it anymore. i have 3 different teams made up of screens and stat controls with meta relevant pokémon. i set up light screen and reflect with alakazam, grimmsnarl, and klefki. i control speed or attack with rotom heat, rotom wash, and jolteon. i have had success sweeping up with blastoise, volcarona, mimikyu, swampert, meowscarada, and mega venusaur. these are the monsters getting the most use on my teams. nothing revolutionary, but i am using them in less than obvious ways. i am using blastoise in a way that used to be popular with shell smash and white herb. i am using grimmsnarl in the newly popular way with parting shot and light clay. i am using life orb mimikyu with drain punch. my jolteon has a focus sash with thunder wave and shadow ball. my rotoms have the same move sets with both thunder wave and will-o-wisp. my klefki is the same old popular build. my alakazam is fairly innovative. he is running future sight and psyshock in addition to screens and light clay. i like running my bulky mons with defense and special defense as even as possible. i wish the game has the assault vest and eviolite! i miss those days…

i went out with friends to help J buy a starter kit of tees and casual shorts. we started with some morning beverages. i got an iced chai latte, A got mocha, and J got an italian roast pour over. J bought a bunch of tees and a couple pairs of shorts at the nicest marshalls in the area. he bought a couple more pairs of shorts at the biggest thrift shop in the area. we went to my wife’s favorite korean fried chicken spot and they loved it. we went to my wife’s favorite park and they liked that a lot as well. i gave a lot of dating advice and explained the greatest advice i could give would be showing them places to bring future dates.

i went back outside to buy myself a couple cheap fragrances and get my mom some nice trainers. i got her some black and mint walking shoes as well as some vintage style tennis shoes in chocolate suede. i was relieved to find a great deal on fragrances and get my mom’s future birthday gift out of the way. i also managed to sell a couple of old work shirts at the thrift. i didn’t trade or buy anything in exchange. i just left it as store credit for later.

i went to a party with the hosts i don’t like yesterday. it was good because i was hanging with my new friends while knocking back beers. my wife and i also spent a lot of time hugging periodically in the middle of the party. a new friend, K, shared about the most horrid trauma i had ever heard of and her follow up solutions for it. i complemented her profusely. it was an awesome moment. i binged on snacks and enjoyed more dessert than usual. the food was great. bad company makes bad wine, but i stayed the hell away from the hosts. all good

i got my MIL to buy 3 dresses! she tried on stuff at a couple secondhand stores, but didn’t like anything. i took her to a department store for elderly people and she got dresses in pink, mint green, and navy. kind of a miracle she got the in small petite sizing, even if they have a more relaxed fit. it turned out very affordable for me. not the point, but cool anyway. great win after getting some cheap fragrances for a friend’s birthday and some overalls for myself.

all my pants are baggy, but they are moderately baggy. a few of them are proper baggy. none of them are full on rave pants or parachute pants.

i kept my last pairs of straight jeans because my wife likes them. i am going to get some darning done on one pair, because they were tearing near the crotch from my thighs being much fatter a year ago. thankfully, my thighs are tighter and i can squat in those jeans without busting them now.

i got bored with WFH and wearing shorts for the past couple months. today i whipped out all my dungarees and corduroys to try them on. i am already excited for fall. it’s too hot to even wear chinos indoors these days. i have great shorts and my wife loves my new pairs, but i still think fall and winter are the best times to get dressed.
