An elder passed away in my community and people were sharing pictures. These brought me to tears, if you’ve ever heard of the movie “Big Miracle,” he was the one who inspired it. There were whales stuck in the ice and they had no way to escape since they need to breath so Price Brower figured out the exact distance they needed air and how to not scare them at the same time since the whales had a baby with them. Brower also made sure they were fed because they couldn’t dive far for food. I’m not sure what part of the process of freeing them these photos were taken but they’re beyond beautiful. The connection we share with animals is very beautiful and meaningful.
I like to think this is a testament to how indigenous people view animals. We take care of them because they take care of us and we’re responsible for each other. Sometimes they care for us more and sometimes we care for them more because jts a give and take.
