Out of devastation can come great beauty and renewal of life, provided that we don’t bury the past behind when we launch 🚀 ourselves into the future. As a former German and global historian, I learned this lesson well on visits to Berlin and Holocaust remembrance sites in Europe. Now, as founder of Sempervirens117, I witness scenes of devastation caused by climate change and a humanity out of sync with nature. This is an image from @bigbasinvineyards near Boulder Creek, California. The vineyard survived the 2020 CZU lightning ⚡️ complex fire 🔥 🌲 but many homes, lives, and livelihoods were not. Including this home here, which we stand as a living memorial to the events of that late summer - one year ago. Our new “Growing a Greener Economy” company team building retreat in the coastal redwoods includes a tour, wine 🍷 tasting, and group picnic 🧺 discussion at the winery. We also are hoping to partner with @sempervirensfund and @castateparks to make nearby Big Basin State Park the first 💯 percent sustainable park in California and work with Silicon Valley green tech and social media corporations to design a public forum space where new and innovative solutions to climate change and greenhouse gas and carbon emissions are presented. Today the evacuation orders for Pescadero were lifted as containment of the CZU Complex Fires gains traction. While we are immensely lucky to be able to return to our home and workshop we know for many this will be a long and arduous process and for some not a possibility at all. The coast and forests here have been our home and inspiration behind everything we do at Coastside Home Goods, before living in Pescadero we spent close to a decade in Bonny Doon nestled creekside in the redwoods. We cannot begin to imagine the loss members of our community are experiencing, not only of homes but also the special places like Big Basin so many of us here carry in our hearts. We do know however the resiliency and passion of those who live here and that this community will bounce back. We're trying to find our footing to help so as a start we will donating 50% of the sales of our Big Basin bars and 20% of any of our Coastside Soaps between @mypuente and Mountain Community Resources for the time being. Taking the time typically spent at Markets to revamp our products portfolio. Monday was ingredients day, seen here is the red Brazilian clay, star anise, cardamom, and cedar that are the stars of our Big Basin bars.
