Big Belts Make a Big Comeback
In one of my previous articles I wrote about old trends making a return, and belts are no different. In the mid-00s big belts were a must and were worn with just about anything; jeans, dresses, shorts – you name it and it was worn with a belt. Like most trends it became unfashionable and faded into the background. However, like the return of the choker, big belts are making a reappearance!
‘Westworld’ is likely responsible for the big belt resurgence, along with the western look which is popular on both the catwalk and high street right now. There are plenty of belts with a western motif on the oversized buckle, and if you’re trying to recreate a western look, a big belt buckle is essential.

Belts can add a lot to an outfit. If you feel your dress is a little too feminine you can just add a chunky belt to mix it up. This can also very casually highlight your figure, giving you that desired pear shape. If you have an outfit you are fond of but want it to look new, adding a belt is a great way to achieve this.
Don’t worry if you’re not into the whole western look as not all of the latest belts are western inspired. There are other styles that may take your fancy, such as the (what I like to call) 'Kardashian-esque'. These belts look like corsets and cover most of your waist, flattering any curves you may have.
If you are someone who holds onto old clothes and accessories, then you may have a big belt from the 00s hiding away in your wardrobe. So dust it off and wear it with pride. The return of big belts is proof of the fashion wheel turning and old trends becoming new. Maybe we should all start to keep hold of old items of clothing, just in case!
