@instaingenieria #instaingenieria #bigbrutus #machinery #mining #carbon #mineria #construccion #ingenieria #ingenieriacivil #arquitectura #mecánica #ingenieriamecánica #ingenieriaambiental #ambiental #civil #engineering #architecture #civilengineering #earth #geotecnia #geotechnical #geología #obra #constructor #contratista #inmobiliaria #seguridad #safety #instamood #amazing (at West Mineral, Kansas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAQrPO1Ftcm/?igshid=1aly2yvd0y1jf

The great Big Brutus! I love it! #traktorpower #tractor #traktor #bigbrutus
Leaving Independence, we couldn't resist taking a detour to visit Big Brutus: the world's largest electric shovel. It stands 16 stories tall in West Mineral, KS, a vestige of coal mining in the area. When the strip mine shut down in 1974, they backed Brutus out and left it here; it would have cost too much to take it apart. Now, it's been restored as part of a mining museum. Museum manager Betty Becker tells us, Brutus feels like part of the family. "A BIG part!" That's me with producers Elissa Nadworny and Sami Yenigun in the gigantic bucket, which could scoop up enough rock and dirt to fill three railroad cars. Listen for our story about Big Brutus on Weekend Edition on Sunday, Jan. 29th. --Melissa
