I think that it is a way of taking Robert Altman's radicalism and sort of cleaning it up for prime time. It's Aaron Sorkin. All of it says "prestige", which is not quite as gutter as Altman or Cassavetes.

Right? What the fuck? I mean, I don't really care about how abusive a director happens to be. I just want to see a good movie hahaha. what ikaristwin says. it's narrative isn't really that insane, it's just surreal and heavy with the semiotic imagery. not to mention, lynch likes to perpetuate the whole "i just do weird shit" idea because he's smart enough not to spoon feed
I'd say it is sort of insane! hahahaa Only after reading some webpages a year ago, after all these years, did I see some clues that surprised me and suggested something coherent that I never imagined. But to support my own argument, I'd say that it was the pilot to an entire future series, and making it a single work was a last minute leap into the surreal.
And I want to underscore that I don't think that's a cop out. I think that's brilliant. He does it in the most astonishing and power way that anyone could imagine. It feels right. And that is more important to me.
Also, as a young queer kid, it was extremely moving.

Purple Rose of Cairo is another classic. I just thought it would be a little film, but it's good. I loved it when I saw it. I forget it a bit now, the details. I feel sometimes like I need to rewatch every film I've ever seen. I'm running out of room.

Deconstructing Harry is hilarious! I don't think I've seen Bullets over Broadway or Sweet and Lowdown, which is too bad. I think sspeakup is about to say those are some of her favorites.
Crimes and Misdemeanors was always my favorite until I saw Stardust Memories.
