I decided to try out Cornish food boxed for the first time last week. I was tempted in by their lovely new shop in Truro where I immediately orders a veg, meat and dairy box and arranged for another set to be delivered the following week.
Now I absolutely love the romantic idea of having local produce delivered straight to my door and have nothing but praise for the quality of food I received (except for the suspect kale which went mouldy instantly) but my bank balance however, did not.
The week I ordered my nice family Cornish food box I spent around £130 in a week on food. A record I think for me, even with a big eater in the house! I actually think the food boxes are good value for the produce given, although the fish is slightly pricey compared to the local fish monger that pops by my mums every Tuesday. But what I didn’t account for was all the little extra ingredients and everyday household items I still had to buy in that week.
Hello giant food bill. Shame but I'm definitely putting a Christmas order in!
