I feel like so many people don’t realize what a SCAM many trade industries are, and I mean in the workers favor?

Like I used to clean offices as a teenager and despite making good cash I was definitely infected by the attitudes of my older relatives that had masters degrees and office jobs and looked down on me and talked bad about janitors and garbagemen and I was like “I can’t wait to get my degree and move up in the world”

And then I got my degree and immediately started making like 1/4 of the money for 3x the hours. Granted the work was physically less demanding but I was 19 and suddenly like where is my social life, I have no time to see anyone and no money to do anything with them if I could. Eventually my brain shed its social constructs and I quit the IT world and I’m back office cleaning and like…. It rules?

Do office workers just totally NOT know that some of these jobs pay so well?? Like ok Janice look down your nose at me but you sit in a grey box for 50hrs a week making 15/hr before taxes, and I basically set my own schedule, my take-home pay is 35-45/hr, and I can work like 15-20 hrs a week and still make almost as much as you?

I feel like I’m pulling the biggest con in the world. Jokes on you! I don’t have to sit still and be bored, I can listen to EDM and dance while cleaning, listen to podcasts and recorded lectures, my ADHD actually enjoys the physical activity and hyper focusing on dirt removal. The instant gratification and satisfaction of seeing the before/after. I’m smiling like 80% of the work day. And I have most of my week off! I only decided to work 8hrs this week and I’m still well within paying my rent and bills- sure I’m not buying a Mercedes but I spent most of yesterday listening to classical music while floating in my friends pool and eating popsicles, like

I’m not financially rich but I am enjoying my life? My buddies are window cleaners and they get treated like subhuman entities on the job but like they bring home almost 50/hr after taxes because they bid by the job instead of by the hour- and spend a lot of their week hiking and camping and enjoying life.

And if any of us wanted to we could work more (when you’re a cleaner somehow there are always more jobs- you have to turn down work all the time- don’t know if this is universal but it’s happened to me in the 3 us states and two Canadian provinces I’ve lived in- people hear you clean and you get flooded with offers) and make TONS of cash, if my friends want to go away on a trip or need to buy a vehicle they just work like 70hrs a week for 1 month and make like 14,000 bucks. I’m not even kidding. I choose to make less money because I value free time over cash but like- I have the OPTION of free time!! Without Immediately starving or getting evicted! When I worked retail I wanted to straight up DIE all the time and when I worked in my field I was drained and unfulfilled and cleaning is just- the biggest con I’ve ever run.
