This is more wishlist-y, but I like to think that one day when Barret and Marlene go out to run some errands together, Cloud would get to tag along with them. I doubt in the whole time during/after the main game events, they didn’t get to bond and get closer together. Even if it’s something small like going on a shopping trip to get Marlene new clothes or to take her somewhere where she can see fields of flowers. Cloud never really had a father figure and though he didn’t necessarily miss it, it’d be nice for him to see what a good father is like and to witness the softer side of Barret without the pressure of Shinra and Avalanche weighing on his shoulders.
Cloud without fail always grumbles about Barret and him trying to hug him. He usually slips away, but one time he’s too slow and Barret actually gets him. Despite his complaining, he actually enjoys the hug... and let’s just say after that, most attempts at hugs are successful from Barret’s part. Cloud won’t admit he likes them, but sometimes a guy needs a good, firm hug to keep him grounded in reality instead of floating off in his head. Barret’s hugs just happen to be the right amount of comforting, yet firm. Though rather than admit it, Cloud would sooner just lie and say Barret caught him off guard and ambushed him.
