Orango is the largest island of the Bijagos Archipelago, which is located 60 km off the coast of mainland Guinea-Bissau. The Orango National Park park protects the mangrove forests, sea turtles 🐢 and hippopotamuses. The satellite imagery was captured by the satellite on 19-Feb-2019. To get access to this and more satellite imagery check out our website or the android app. 🙂 https://farmonaut.com #orango #island #bijagos #archipelago#guineabissau #africa #nationalpark#mangroveforest #mangrove #turtle#seaturtle #hippopotamus #earth#earthpix #nature_perfection #magical #gis #remotesensing #earthpix #earthfromabove #spacescience #satellite #tech #earth #earthscience #satelliteimagery #geography (at Orango Grande, Cacheu, Guinea-Bissau) https://www.instagram.com/p/BubWmA1HTRI/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=s0188taj9ylr
Kanibaque, 2018 As I approach the island, I see layers of brown and green. The tan sandy beach borders on a dense tropical forest that reaches all the way to the edge of a large rice field—one that consumes the entire tip of the island. The tide is low, so we anchor the boat about a hundred yards from the shore and climb out. The water is calm and shallow but full of stingrays-- I am quickly informed to take slow steps and to drag my feet through the mud until we reach the shore We form a small line and move forward, the shifting of the sand deters the rays and helps prevents any painful steps. We reach the land and are welcomed by a lively soccer match to mark the end of the work day. The beach is filled with the energy of young laughing children circling the match, climbing trees, and splashing in the puddles Evening preparations surrounds us as we enter the village—babies being washed, dinner cooking on a small fire, and the farm animals being tied up for the night. The day has left, the soccer match is over, and the children linger back home for a family dinner. There are still remnants of the evening activities spread across the beach, but a calm settles in as the laughter of children is replaced with the soothing sound of the distant tide. We form a line and cautiously sludge through the water to our boat…the clear sky and calm, empty ocean allow us a moment of meditation as we return home for another night of island sleep. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #africa #bijagos, # guineabissau #travel #beach #soccer #documentary #film #nikon #womeninfilm #landscape #ocean (at Guinea-Bissau) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs3-N-0BanR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=gm9s3hd9pfmh
