Hello from the Blue Eye in Albania! When I first learned about this place, I HAD to go. It was worth the rain ride and is one of my favorite natural wonders I’ve visited so far. I wasn’t joking when I said the color of the rivers in Albania were astounding. I can’t believe a place like this exists and that I got to see it in person. Hello from the Greek island of Crete! This is the first ferry Athena and I rode a ferry! We went from Gytheio to Kissamos on Crete! And I’m going to be real with y’all. I was miserable and this voyage put me out. I got nauseous and had to lie horizontal for 7 hours. I tried to nap, but woke up sweating because my body DID NOT like the rocking. I was on one of those huge ferries too. I was worried Athena was going to tip over and I expressed this to the folks manning the parking situation below and they kindly ratchet strapped her to the wall for me. This expedition is putting me in situations I’ve never been in and testing my physical limitations. Now I know my body doesn’t like long ferry rides. But this was worth it to me. I couldn’t visit Greece without visiting a Greek island, so this was worth the pain. And I surely wasn’t going to leave Athena behind! 😹 No pain, no glory. Happy Monday y’all! Hello from the Archaeological Site of Mystra! The wonders of Peloponnese never cease to amaze me. Overlooking the ancient city of Sparta, Mystra features two levels: the castle above and monasteries and churches below. It was built in 1248 AD by the Franks and then constantly exchanged hands by being captured by the Byzantines, Turks and then Venetians. It was finally abandoned in 1834 as the inhabitants of Mystras gradually started to move to the modern town of Sparta down the mountain. I came here early and was one of the only people walking around. Some of the walls, churches and monasteries are in very good condition. I enjoyed walking around the whole site and was very thankful to have my bike so I could ride from the upper level to the lower level. I’m happy I’m able to see all these amazing sites with my motorcycle. I’m not smiling, I’m manically laughing inside. So my worldwide riding friend David that I met in Serbia, we randomly linked up in Athens! Remember, this is the same rider I asked to ride in the Balkan winter for 6 hours to see a waterfall in Serbia that was dry. Teehee, oops 🙃 So what did I do? I asked if he wanted to do a day trip in the cold with me again. It’s so funny, the most annoyed grumbling groan comes out of his body when he sees me. I think he intentionally avoids me sometimes. But hey, he can only say no 8 times in a row before he stops hiding behind the fridge. I can see you, David. I’m a persistent little critter. So here we are. Look how warmly dressed he is. It’s still not warm enough. The first photo is a catfish photo of my feelings, swipe to see my real face and how I feel riding in the cold. But hey, the views are worth it. Right? David? Where did you go? Year round riders. Honestly it’s miserable and suffering. I don’t know if we’re any tougher, but the wind calls and we’re nomads and movers. In Greece, you can find me where land meets sea. I didn’t plan this day. I just meandered and let free flow take me. I followed the road to the dead end, got off my bike, let my curiosity take control and just started walking. I found myself all by myself at the very tippy tippy of this rocky barren peninsula. Just spectacular. I could feel the salty ocean spray sprinkle my face as the waves crashed against the rocks. Does anyone else meander and free flow?
