Best Souvenirs in Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Whenever you visit a new or exotic place for the first time, bringing something special back for close friends and family to share in your adventure is not only thoughtful, but also super fun. I like to play this game where I listen to my family members and come up with things they may need even though they didn’t ask for it or didn’t say it. Then I keep a running list of gift ideas for them, and check it off each holiday. For example, my dad looooooves Central American coffee, so bringing him fresh local beans from Costa Rica is a real treat. Plus, people will be more willing to listen to you go on and on about how great your vacation was if you bring something back for them too 😉 Out of all of the stores I wandered through, here are my ideas for where to find the best souvenirs in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.

2Aves

If you head all the way down the main road in Tamarindo, it ends in a circle. At the Northwest side of the circle is a cute little shop that sells so many adorable gifts for the home or to wear! If you’re looking for something for the home, pick up one of the 2Aves Turkish towels. They are so soft, and come in different sizes for a blanket, scarf, mantel, or surf towel. One of our friends picked up a beautiful one for their bed back home, and I have to admit I wish I had done the same for the lovely teal one!

Urban Eclectic Jewelry

On the other side of the circle at the end of the main road in Tamarindo is a cute little jewelry shop called Urban Eclectic, run by an interesting American woman who escaped Los Angeles to Costa Rica some years ago. I love her story of going from a paralegal to Etsy shop owner to Costa Rican shop owner. Now she spends her days crafting in her seaside shop, has a website and an Etsy shop. Her website blog actually has some really cool articles documenting her story. What a dream! It’s very inspiring – if only I had this kind of tenacity. Maybe I do.

Morena

What better souvenir is there to remember a surfing trip to Costa Rica than a new swimsuit? Morena is a locally owned boutique that makes all of their own suits, and they are surprisingly affordable. There are tons of surf shops in Tamarindo where you can buy suits, but I like this one because they have the cutest prints and you can’t find these suits anywhere else. Plus, a one-piece can double as a top when you pair it with a maxi skirt or something. Many of the surf shops tend to have quality name brand suits that you can find pretty easily online or locally in the US. I brought home a cute reversible one-piece with jungle butterflies on one side and blackness on the other. Like my soul. 😉

Guaitil Pottery Studio

I was looking everywhere to make a local craft while I was here! This pottery studio has been here for quite some time, and they’ll teach you how to make and paint a piece of coil pottery that you can bring home as a souvenir or gift for someone you love. How cool would it be to make a Costa Rican-style piece of pottery? The nice man who owns this studio with his mother politely answered my annoying questions about their process, and then asked me how long I had been doing ceramics for. I used to do ceramics. I don’t know for how long or how much, but I guess I did enough of it that he thought I knew something about it.

Con Mucho Gusto

This was Chris’s favorite shop by far, and definitely the best salesperson! A man named Manrique was tending the store when we went in. He was so knowledgeable about the history of the artifacts and Costa Rica in general! Chris ended up buying a book on musical instruments. Every item in this store has a story, and the richness of bringing objects to life like that makes it hard to walk away from them! We’ll go back here the next time we are in town, I’m sure.

Supermarket

If you’re looking to bring home something special for family or close friends, any supermarket is surprisingly a great place to find gifts. Did you know that cocoa originally comes from Costa Rica? My favorite. Pick up Costa Rican cocoa, coffee beans, salsa, or jam and share some local flavors with your friends back home.

There are plenty of other cute stores to lining the main road of Tamarindo that sell good souvenirs. I’d spring for a little coffee brewer for my dad the next time we visit. You can also check Trip Advisor for more ideas. Do you have any other recommendations?

Triangl Bikini Review

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Neopreone!

After watching Triangl Bikinis being mentioned by several beauty Youtubers, I decided I needed one. Or three.

You can’t shop or try on these bikinis in store ANYWHERE—which is a major bummer. The hardest part of purchasing a Triangl Bikini is figuring out what size to buy. I read several reviews, and found girls that were basically the same size as one another were all buying various different sizes. And they all claimed they fit perfectly(LIES).

I used their size guide to determine what size I would be, and then checked out their 24 hour online customer service chat, and while they were EXTREMELY nice, and genuinely interested in helping me chose the best size for me…I decided not to trust them. Because while they are Triangl experts, they’re still strangers, and I know my body best. I was told by Triangl that for my size to go with small bottoms and either S or M for their tops. When it came to the bottoms, I was glad I did not follow Triangl’s advice.

I’m 5’4ish, around 120 pounds and wear a 34C in Victoria Secret bras. I’m a large in VS triangle style tie bikinis tops, and a small in their tie bottoms. I gambled and went with a size medium for tops AND bottoms for all of the three Triangl styles below. I got lucky all across the board and all 3 of the bikinis fit very well(in my opinion).

Their website mentions several times that the neoprene bottoms are meant to fit snug and tight, which is true. My main concern was the material would dig into my fat, and I would feel too uncomfortable to rock them in public. This, magically, did not turn out to be an issue.

I do want to note that I’m positive a small bottom would be wayyyy too tiny for me, however, if you search the internet there’s hundreds of girls that are my size that will tell you they chose small for both bottoms and tops. I like a bikini with a good amount of coverage, and I feel comfortable in all 3 of my medium tops and bottoms.

Little side note size comparison: My friend ordered a Poppy top in a Large, and the cup size was too small for her. She is a size 34 D. I tried on her large top, and it was too big(the band was the central problem). If you have a larger bust, this brand may not be the best fit for you. If you don’t mind showing off your girls A LOT, and don’t participate in hardcore beach activities, then please order away. The straps are adjustable for most suits, but unfortunately, the bands are not.

While this is an Australian brand, they are now based out of Hong Kong, so shipping isn’t cheap. You will pay $25 for Shipping&Handling. S&H costs are NOT covered by Triangl, if you need to make a return/exchange ([email protected]). I wasn’t even mad about the $25 dollar shipping though, because your order arrives SO FAST. I placed my order on a Monday, I believe it shipped on Tuesday or Wednesday, and I received the delivery on a Friday afternoon. Shipping is awesome.

Most suits will arrive in cute matching neoprene bags that you can keep your suit in. If you order a Poppy style, those will come in a sweet black box. The suits are extremely well made, and feel high quality to the touch. The Poppy top has some padding, while my other suits(Lily/Black Neon were not lined. Don’t let this deter you though, the neoprene is substantial enough on its own, and I don’t foresee any “coverage” problems in my future.

You can make your purchase via PayPal, Debit, or Credit. Paypal shows up as the only option at first when you are finalizing your order, but once you get to the next screen you can click credit.

Overall, I had a great experience with Triangl from their customer service to delivery. I was very lucky in that all of my size choices fit. Now that I know my size—my problem is wanting ALL of THEM!
