Evan tossed the Quaffle up in the air, watched it levitate for a moment, and then effortlessly caught it as it fell back down. Not that it was a particularly hard task; the ball was basically falling into his lap. Without anything better to do, Evan used both of his hands to gently toss the ball up again. Like clockwork, it levitated for a moment and then fell back down.
If only it were this easy to catch the Quaffle on the pitch. Games would probably be a lot less fun though...
The one nice thing about his job was that it was Quidditch-oriented. He might’ve been lost and annoyed with the work he was doing, but at least there was a vague underlying purpose that he cared about. Evan knew that people in his department got to go to games as a part of their job, but he’d yet to figure out how to tie that into his responsibilities as Deputy Head. Part of that was because he wasn’t actually sure what his official responsibilities were yet. He’d probably have to figure that out sooner or later.
As he threw up the Quaffle again, a visitor entered his office and broke the monotony. Not expecting a change after a dull day that had otherwise gone the same as all of the other dull days that week, Evan jerked forward to sit up properly in his chair. When the Quaffle fell back down again, as per its usual routine, Evan had to twist out its way - though he did still manage to catch it and made the save look easy.
“Hi!” he beamed at the other man. “What can I help you with?”
Evan had no idea if that’s what he was supposed to say when someone walked into his office, but it felt right and that gave him far more confidence than it should’ve.
