It's 2026 and people are still wondering if Transgender folks should have equal rights or not. We still discriminate against them and call them names, treat them as though they are less of human beings.
In India, a bill was introduced in the parliament on March 12, 2026. It's called the Trans Amendment Bill or Bill 79. The bill says that to be recognised a Transgender individual by the law, one must have a medically verified certificate. This means that Indians no longer have the right to determine their own gender. Also, trans folks can only undergo medical procedures if they possess the said certificate. Now, even the doors of hospitals will open selectively.
Unfortunately, this bill has already passed in the Lok Sabha on March 24, 2026, Rajya Sabha on March 25, 2026 and has received presidential assent despite the protests and numerous petitions to the president to not approve of it.
In a matter of time, it will become a law and will be enforced on the people.
I have studied throughout my life that India is a great country. No, it isn't. Shame on India. Shame on the government.
I apologise for having not spoken up sooner on the matter.
We stand against the bill. We stand with the trans.
