There are many ways to do a highly personal album, though many musicians use two options, i.e. they either go direct or oblique. The latter felt good for Peter Gabriel, whose Us continues to confound us. The entire record remains a paradox, since the LP deals with the lack of communication, yet the disc takes the mantle for one of the densest things Gabriel did. He hides his pain in plain sight, but he also polishes everything to convince, ha, us that he would take care of this all. Unsurprisingly, we don't buy this, Us can be occasionally a tough listen, though the tunes present on the disc could be considered as some of the best work by Gabriel. Sure, while the sonic landscapes seem both harsh and calm, Gabriel can't settle on how he should actually perceive all his problems.
