SEX/LIFE || 1.04 ‘NEW NEW YORK’
If I see one more wrong hot take on Sex/Life and one more post on “oh Cooper is sooo good and soo right”, I will scream. Wake the hell up.
For the love of all that is holy, are people SOOOO completely blind to what a woman needs to be happy, that they see a guy repeatedly saying “But I’m the nice guy” and think that’s it, she needs to settle (keyword) for this dude?
Billie has needs. Billie deserves to be 100% happy with her marriage and not just any inferior percentage. And thank God she comes to that conclusion at the end.
More importantly: Billie has been in a self-induced personality COMA for freaking 8 years. She’s in a Stepford wife scenario and y’all are telling her “hey you must be the Stepford wife, because Cooper, and the kids, that’s great!”. NO, it is not. And Cooper (you know, the saint all those who don’t get it worship) while having no idea about her past (which of course he can’t be faulted for), knows her PROFESSIONAL side full well, yet he keeps pushing her to be smaller, to do less, to just be who he wants her to be because that accomodates his needs, not hers. Billie gave up EVERYTHING she is personally and professionally to be with Cooper. And that is the definition of an unhealthy, wrong relationship. It doesn’t matter if she thought she wanted to. It’s WRONG.
Sasha (and I love the character, but this is the truth) is ZERO help in that sense because she can’t see straight at all where Cooper is concerned, and she cannot see how utterly miserabile Billie is. Billie keeps telling herself that she’s happy and her reactions show the exact opposite. Only one who sees that? You guessed it, Brad.
The only one who sees Billie fully for who she is IS BRAD. Suck it up and get with the program, because that’s the whole point of the entire journey. And THAT is why the sex with him is off the charts. Sex is a consequence of them seeing one another, not the premise. And Brad makes that abundantly clear when he talks to her “It started long before the pool. In the car. You saw right through me. And I saw you”.
That dinner scene is one of my favorite because it shows who is REALLY standing up for Billie, and that’s BRAD, not freaking Cooper. Who never misses a chance to try to clip her wings. I want to rip his head off with the whole “only if you want to, babe”, clearly trying to manipulate her into giving up what’s most important to her, because that’s so convenient for HIM.
And HELL TO THE NO, you don’t stay in a marriage that doesn’t make you happy just because you have small children and a white picket fence. Stepford Wives was in the 70s but I see the mentality is STILL alive and well. Children SEE when stuff is not right and that’s NO way of giving them a healthy family. Or to lead a happy life.

[Life with Cooper] isn’t perfect. And it’s -- it’s really fucking hard, you know? But I love Cooper. And I don’t want a future without him.

What are you doing here? I asked Sasha if I could come and surprise you. Sweep you off your feet. She made me promise to wait until after the cake, but...
