Please enjoy this parody commentary by McKallaster on the fists and filth of the 1974 Charity Shield Leeds v Liverpool match.
Leeds had a reputation for foul play - hence their nickname, 'Dirty Leeds' - but as you can see from these highlights, they weren't that unusual. I suspect that modern refs would red card most 1970s players before they even got out of the tunnel.
Although Bob Paisley was managing Liverpool at this point, Bill Shankly - who hadn't long retired - led the team out in recognition of his services to the Reds. Brian Clough, of course, was sacked from managing Leeds just over a month after this game. He had been in position for a total of less than eight weeks, having taken over at Elland Road from the legendary Don Revie.
The score at the game's final whistle was 1-1, but Liverpool won the Shield 6-5 on penalties.
So It Goes - Rockpile but where it’s going no one knows.
