Unlike other pairs of complementary colors, fiery orange and cool blue are strongly associated with opposing concepts — fire and ice, earth and sky, land and sea, day and night, invested humanism vs. elegant indifference, good old fashioned explosions vs. futuristic science stuff.
I’m having a lot of BillyAv feels today. I just love them and miss writing them. I’ve been working on some one-shots as well as a story focusing on them but idk how it’d be received.
IM LAUGHING SO HARD AT THE THOUGHT OF 12, LIKE... BILLY GOING UP TO AVALON LIKE "DROP YOUR SHITTY FRIENDS" AND REFERRING TO THE VIPERS
Something like...
Billy couldn’t take it anymore. He couldn’t take waiting up every hour of the night for...for what really? The telephone ringing. The sound of a car door slamming shut and squealing tires as a body was left on the front porch? A brick being thrown through the window?
Reaching up a hand, Billy scratched his forehead, then ran his fingers through his hair. There were too many outcomes that he didn’t want to think about. The worst being that dreaded phone call that said someone was in the morgue. Still, Billy continued to sit in the armchair closest to the front door, untouched schoolwork scattered around him.
Finally, he heard a key in the lock and looked up as Avalon walked into the Cranston house, sticking something into her pocket so he wouldn’t see. He studied her face and sighed when he saw the new, fresh bruise around her eye that hadn’t been there that morning.
He leaned his head to the side, and ran a hand over his face. He was tired. So tired of having to see this over and over again. So tired o having to pretend that nothing was going on. So it was that tiredness that propelled him out of the armchair and walk up to Avalon who leaned against the wall behind her, as if it was the only thing holding her up.
“Not to dictate your life,” Billy said with equal amounts of exhaustion and contempt. “But drop your shitty friends.”
Avalon looked up at him, eyebrows rising at the harsh blunt tone of his words. She knew he really meant it. That he truly did care if he were able to come out so honestly like that. To say what he truly felt about the Vipers, who she continued to see--despite her insistence that things were complicated. Avalon’s face softened as she pushed herself to stand up straight.
She reached out, gently placing her hand on the side of his face. Then she dropped her hand, patted his shoulder and said, “Well, it was nice knowing you,” before giving an amused smile, barely concealing her laughter, as she walked away leaving Billy to only shake his head, a small smile on his face.
3: Who’s family hosts a bigger holiday gathering? What’s the gathering like for your OTP?
Billy’s would hold the bigger party and by the standards of Avalon’s family, it’s not hard to do. She’s still estranged enough from her parents that she would prefer to just have her mother there though she would make sure to make an appearance with Tommy’s family and send something out to Dana and Ryan.
Billy’s family would be the sort of family hat has the big gatherings where everyone dresses their best and does all of the traditions in the movies that Avalon isn’t entirely comfortable with. But he sticks by her side as he moves through the throng of his relatives as they all warmly welcome her.
8: What gifts would they get each other for the holidays?
Practical gifts with sentiments in them. Avalon would give Billy a high-powered telescope. Not that he couldn’t make his own, but she gives him one to see as much of the universe as possible, something he takes advantage of during the nights they aren’t fighting monsters.
Billy gives Avalon a collection of his favorite books that he believes she will enjoy as well to introduce her to some of his favorite writers. Instead of the scientific journals he reads on nearly a daily basis, he shares the books he loved as a child as well as other fiction, memoir, and non-fiction books which touches her more than she originally thought it would.
9: How do they spend their winter holiday? Do they even celebrate the same holiday?
Avalon actually doesn’t have a lot of fond memories of the holiday. Typically, she prefers to use it to spend time with Bailey. With Billy in her life, he slowly pushes them to be more accepting with ideas of the holidays, though he is also quick to point out the commercialism of the days. Avalon struggles with whether or not to go back to Australia for the holiday but Billy ultimately helps her see how much she’s come to see Angel Grove as her home and spend time there.
She goes with him and his family up into the mountains to spend the holiday at the Cranton’s cabin and although she complains about the cold the entire time, she has to admit that Billy really knows how to make her enjoy the holidays more.
“I’m telling you, man, all you have to do is go up to her and say, ‘you’re looking fine today’,” Zack coached. “Chicks love that. It never fails.”
“I don’t know.” Billy frowned deeply, suddenly finding the floor under his feet interesting. What was it about the school that decided that pale brown linoleum floors was a good idea? It clashed with the pink, green, and yellow trimmed walls of the hallways and classrooms. It didn’t take a genius to know they were disgusting colors. And this genius was paying the utmost attention to it and not the nerves that shot through his stomach.
“I do! Trust me.”
“That’s when you have should run,” Jason said with a grin. He leaned on a row of lockers nearby, hands in the pockets of his jeans, legs extended, ankles crossed. The epitome of chill. Billy wanted nothing more than to punch that smug smile off his face. “When Zack says ‘trust me’ that’s when everything goes wrong.”
“Hey, who’s the one with a girlfriend here?” Zack asked. At that Jason and Billy had no choice but to concede the black ranger’s point. As crazy as it seemed, Zack had been dating Angel for the last four months and they seemed to be really happy together. “Exactly. Now, Billy, if you want Av to know you’re digging on her, you just have to be confident. Just walk up to her and say, ‘Hey girl, you’re looking fine today’. Calm and smooth like that, alright?”
Billy nodded. He didn’t have a choice. Logically, he knew that wasn’t true. There were always choices to be made. But in this case, he understood Zack’s argument. You didn’t get anywhere without acting. And so, Billy sucked in a deep breath to calm himself and walked down the row of lockers that lined the unfortunately colored hallways towards the orange ranger.
Along the way he alternated looking at his beat up converses to looking at the Australian beauty as he approached. Avalon turned as he approached and gave her the same smile she always greeted him with. One that absolutely lit up her face, turning it from the serious resting expression to one of complete happiness. It threw him off-guard.
Enough so that when she greeted him with her standard, “Hey Smurf, how ya going?” he could only half-mumble, half-yell, “Hey girl, you’re looking fine today.” As soon as the words left his mouth there was a pregnant pause. Billy heard the words play back in his head, the almost robotic sounding tone he added to them and cringed.
Avalon blinked in surprise before her eyebrows lowered. “What?” She asked in utter confusion.
Billy wasn’t sure if it was the snickering he could hear Zack trying, and failing, to hide or the thickness of Avalon’s Australian accent that made things clear to him. Clear that 1) he wasn’t the kind of person to try and flirt that way and 2) Neither Zack nor Avalon were going to forget what just happened.
Never in his life did he want a monster to come down from the sky and step on him.
back at it again to ask Billy/Avalon for the headcanon meme pfff
This is a long one so part of it is going to be under a ‘read more’.
Who’s more dominant: 100% Avalon, no question. She’s tiny but she’s mighty and there are times where Billy will be hardpressed to get his way. Not that she can’t compromise, but after having had taken care of her little sister on her own for a while it’s a hard habit to break.
Who’s the cuddler: Mmm, I would actually say Avalon. Once she gets to be really comfortable around him she loves to do it. Deep down, she doesn’t need an excuse for it. She likes to cuddle.
Who’s the big spoon/little spoon: Since Av is usually the instigator, she’s the big spoon and he’s the little spoon. But when that becomes uncomfortable they switch around.
What’s their favorite non-sexual activity: Playing chess. Billy taught her how to play shortly after they met and she quickly became a formidable foe to him. But he almost always wins.
Who uses all the hot water: Billy. He uses time in the shower to think and he has a lot to think about. Thus resulting in running out of hot water.
Most trivial thing they fight over: The thermostat/house temperature. She hates the cold, he hates it when it’s too hot. It continues to go up and down and they argue over it. It doesn’t help that Billy is very calm when arguing and that riles Avalon up even more. (Though he secretly thinks its funny).
Who does most of the cleaning: Billy. As an only child he did a lot of cleaning for his chores and it’s something that he takes pride in. Avalon helps as well, doing the same when she was living with Bailey, but Billy will go behind her and do one last sweep.
What has a season pass on their dvr/Who controls the netflix queue: Billy. There’s a lot of scientific documentaries he has queued up to watch when he has the time. Avalon doesn’t watch a lot of TV.
Who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working: Avalon, to explain how cold she is. Her accent will tend to get thicker when she does this and she will curse more. It is debatable whether that is a reason for it to be fixed faster. If she’s getting too mad, Billy will jump in to ease the situation.
Who leaves their stuff around:Both. But they clean it up fairly quickly.
Who remembers to buy the milk: Avalon. She does the grocery shopping and money managing.
Who remembers anniversaries: Avalon for the most part. Billy gets really caught up in his work sometimes. But they’re not one to celebrate anniversaries in a big way (6 months, 1 year, then years after that).
Who cooks normally: Both. They take turns or cook together.
How often do they fight:They don’t fight that often but when they do it has the potential get bad because it has to be something serious for them to fight..
What do they do when they’re away from each other: Avalon hangs out with her friends, is working, or is at the beach. Billy is hanging out with friends, working, or at a lab of some sort.
Nicknames for each other: Avalon almost exclusively calls Billy ‘Smurf’. Other than ‘Ava’, Billy doesn’t have one for her.
Who is more likely to pay for dinner: Billy. He was raised a gentleman.
Who steals the covers at night: Avalon. She likes to be warm.
What would they get each other for gifts: Bill would get her thoughtful gifts like pictures of their friends or things that would remind her of her friends and family as that’s the most important thing to her. Avalon would get him things he didn’t know he needed or wouldn’t realize he mentioned he needed. She’s good at surprises.
Who kissed who first:They kissed each other at the same time.
Who made the first move:If you want to be technical, and can read through subtleties, Av definitely did.
Who remembers things: Billy. He remembers a lot of things. Sometimes it depends on how distracted he is at the time to be reliable about it.
Who started the relationship:It was a joint effort, things fell in place for it to start.
Who cusses more: 100% Av. No question.
What would they do if the other one was hurt: Avalon would go on a rampage and do her best to take down the threat. Billy would block her and continue to protect her the best he could. A good show of an offense vs. a defense.
Who is the dirty talker: Avalon, though Billy has his moments.
A head canon: During quiet time they like to read together. Usually curled up on the couch or on the floor or in a bed reading with heads or feet in each other’s laps.
