EATING IS PLEASURE OVEREATING IS PAIN
Diets don’t work
We have all been there. Restricting, depriving, limiting ourselves and then the inexorable bindging out followed by self-hatred and regrets.
That is what I have discovered in my life that I want to share to help others. No discipline or limiting yourself anymore – just understanding why you choose what you eat and the effects of that. My only goal is to make us happy – the balance you discover through this article is all up to you. No restrictions.
All you need to do is try to keep an open mind that’s all.
There is a lot of misconception out there and that is why we tend to struggle with our eating habits.
I was inspired by Allen Carr who helped me quit smoking, find balance in my life and reconnect with my body. His works will assist me in explaining why it is so hard to control eating habits.
So, let’s see: DO YOU CHOOSE WHAT YOU EAT?
“You have not chosen the way you eat now, it’s the result of a lifestyle brainwashing” – Allen Carr
I used to work out around 3h per day while maintaining two part-time jobs and used discipline and willpower to stay fit, lean and ‘healthy.’ It never occurred to me that there can be an easier way. When I would eventually break and bindge out I would blame myself for not being able to hold this up and feel like crap, bloated, sad, miserable you name it. Why do we all struggle with our eating habits?
Then I turned to the facts out there: The explosion in the junk industries in over the last 50 years. In 2008, the World Health Organization estimated that 1.4 billion adults were overweight. In America this number is over 70%.
Then I asked myself: How come humans are the only animals on this planet struggling with weight issues? Aside from domesticated animals which we feed, 99.9% of other animals on this planet have no weight problems. Life is careless, free, and easy for them. Animals don’t poison themselves purposely for weight loss. They don’t struggle. And here I am, a member of the most intelligent species on the planet, being outsmarted by all the other animals. We struggle, they don’t, HOW?
Have you ever seen an animal that stands out from its herb because of its weight problem? WE ARE THE ONLY SPECIES ON THIS PLANET THAT HAVE WEIGHT PROBLEMS!
Animals eat as much of their favorite foods as they want, whenever they want and stay lean, healthy, energetic and happy. Ironically, as Allen Carr put it, it could be our own brainpower that led us away from the truth. We need doctors and nutritionists to tell us what to eat and animals don’t. They instinctively know what they should and shouldn’t eat so how come we don’t?
Then I realized something else: the society and our own cultures invite us to overeat. What is even worse, which was my problem: I was full that I could barely move but if I had said no to the dessert I would not only seem rude for rejecting food from someone, I would feel like I’m depriving myself from something sweet and delicious because of my own insecurities. What I came to realize is that insecurity (caused by the society’s brainwashing) was the reason why I was overeating in the first place. EATING is PLEASURE, overeating is PAIN. The wrong types of food makes you OVEREAT!
BUT encouraged by the society we develop this artificial hunger where even though we are full, we are encouraged to overeat. From the beginning of time we are invited to ignore own hunger and eat because it’s time to eat, for boredom, to relax ext. The second we say ‘no’ we are left feeling deprived. You may think you buying junk food is entirely your own choice but it isn’t. Your desire to eat junk is triggered by an association in your mind created by advertising.
When was the last time you ate because you were hungry? Were you happy and satisfied after your meal?
We are all food lovers. As a vegan (since May 21, 2014) people often say to me things like: ‘wow I really feel bad for you’ or 'how can you survive on such restrictive diet?’ I often ask them in return: “Why do you believe you couldn't be a vegan?”
“I eat what I want.” Is the reply.
“Are you happy with your eating habits?”
That’s what I used to believe. I believed I ate what my body wanted me to. But this never brought satisfaction. I would be SO excited for this huge, fatty and satisfying (or so I thought) meal but afterwards I would lie on the couch like snorlax in pain and discomfort. WHY?
One of my close friends became a vegan and I felt so bad for her. I didn’t take the time to do research because I simply thought it was nuts. How can someone live strictly on a plant-based diet? Where is the protein?
One day I couldn’t take it anymore. Why is my body craving cakes, chocolates, flapjacks after a large satisfying – or so I thought – dinner? I just ‘listened’ to my body! I ate what you’ve told me to! Make the bloating go AWAY!
But what a second. Do you think your body would purposely tell you to eat a whole bag of chocolates just so you can feel like crap afterwards? Do you think your body loves experiencing traffic jams, bloating and discomfort? This craving is a result of a long-term brainwashing that has been done to us since we were born.
BE IN CHARGE
Allen Carr:
“I know now there was nothing to be ashamed of. Overeaters are not being foolish, because the “choices” they make when it comes to eating are not free choices at all. They’re the result of a lifetime’s brainwashing. The vast majority of meals you’ve consumed since the day you were born were not chosen by you. Since you haven’t been the one in charge, there’s no reason for you to feel responsible for the way your eating habits have evolved.”
But I couldn’t believe that. I mean, I AM the one in charge of what goes into my body! Why can’t I be perfect and fit like most people (so it seemed) and happy? Why is this whole eating thing so darn difficult??????????
But the beautiful truth is that IT ISN’T.
If you know there is something wrong with your eating habits, ohhhhhhh you are so not alone. We have all struggled! Let’s take that bag of chocolates I used to think I can’t live without and if I did ‘choose’ to live without it – I would be restricting myself and simply fail one day. Discipline doesn’t work. Understanding does.
How to not feel deprived? It’s important to understand that you will be simply changing a situation that you’re unhappy with for the purely selfish reason that you’ll enjoy life infinitely more. Don’t we all want this?
Diets don’t work
Diets are restrictive regime though discipline and will power in order to lose weight. Most of the time they involve crap that makes our bodies addicted and ignore the hunger in order to prevail. But in the end all diets end the same way: failure. You don’t have to restrict yourself. There is an easy and happy way to stay fit, lean and healthy.
Alright guys, that’s it for now!
Gah!!! Just had to tell my dad how much I weighed. This was terrible. Now I wanna bindge and workout.
