Last Part (Part One), Series Masterlist
It was later in the evening now, and Chandler and yourself had gotten to Monica and Rachel’s apartment for Phoebe’s birthday party. You were throwing her a surprise party since she had never had one, she was convinced that it was going to be scary but you had to talk her down enough to the point where the woman would actually show up. Everyone was there except for Phoebe, obviously. As well as Ross, who was the one responsible for bringing the birthday cake. And Joey. Not that you really wanted to see him, but Phoebe was his friend too. If you found out that he was out with Ursula for her birthday instead of Phoebe’s then you were really going to rip him a new one. “So he said that it was just a sprain and that was it.” Rachel told both you and Chandler as she explained how she went to hospital because she fell down trying to take down their Christmas lights. To which, thankfully she was okay. If she had fallen any more from their fifth floor balcony, Rachel really could have hurt herself.
“Good,” you smiled at her with relief to know that your friend was okay.
“Uh, you forgot the stupid part.” Monica reminded her as she took the empty bag of chips from Rachel’s hands.
“It’s not stupid,” Rachel stated to both you and your brother. She wanted to make it very clear. “The very cute, cute, cute doctors asked us out for tomorrow night, and I said yes.” You rose your eyes at her idea that was kind of stupid.
“I think it’s totally insane.” Monica said as Monica took Rachel’s place in front of you, while Rachel went back towards the counters. “They work for the hospital. It’s like returning to the scene of the crime.” You couldn’t help but nod in agreement with, also to state the fact that you were listening. “I say we blow off the dates.”
“What!?” Rachel asked her roommate as she stomped her foot. “Monica, they are cute. They are doctors. Cute doctors. Doctors who are cute.” Rachel tried to say it as many times in order for it to make sense to Monica, but to you it just sounded like she was begging which had you chuckling just the slightest.
“Alright, what have we learned so far?” Chandler asked you as he clapped his hands.
“Well, I think we’ve established that they’re ugly doctors.” You joked along, which resulted in Rachel mocking you. So naturally the two of you laughed your asses off. But the joy was cut short when a knock came at the door causing everyone to jump to attention. Chandler quickly ushered you over the couch in order to hide, since there wasn’t enough time to hide like a normal person apparently. Chandler gave Monica the signal to open the door. As soon as the door was open enough for the birthday girl to walk through, all of you hiding in the living room as well as Rachel and Monica, jumped and screamed a big, loud, happy. “SURPRISE!” But all of you were quickly disappointed when it was in fact Ross coming in with Phoebe’s cake which was thrown up and smashed on the floor, with a very pissed off Ross standing at the door.
“What the hell are you doing? You scared the crap out of me.” Ross said out of anger and embarrassment.
“Was that the cake?” Rachel tried, but she was just asking a very obvious question.
“Yeah. Yep.” Ross answered her as he bent down to pick up the now destroyed cake. “I got a lemon shmush.” He gave Rachel a very sarcastic answer.
“Come on,” Monica rushed everyone into the living room so you all could inspect the damage that was inflicted upon the cake. “She’ll be here any minute.”
“Oh, I hope it’s okay.” Rachel muttered as you kneeled down next to Ross, Chandler next to Monica and Rachel on the other side of Ross. All of you looking down at the jumbled up cake.
“Happy Birthday, Peehee.” Chandler read off of the cake, which was clearly messed up from being thrown and flumped on the floor.
“Maybe we can make a ‘B’ out of one of those roses.” Monica suggested.
“Yeah, we’ll just use our special cake tools.” Ross answered back sarcastically as you grabbed his arm to calm him down.
“Hey, what’s going on?” Phoebe’s voice asked from behind you making your eyes go wide as you and the other four shared glances and glares about how you totally failed this surprise party.
“SURPRISE!” All you jumped and shouted. It was at the right person this time.
“Oh! Oh! Oh! This is so great!” Phoebe beamed, still seeming to be surprised regardless. “This was not at all scary.” Phoebe cheered with you as she grabbed your hand, and the both of you jumped in the excitement. “Hi everybody. Hi, Betty! You found Betty!” Phoebe cheered, getting you to jump with her again. “This is so great!” Phoebe pulled you in for a hug, which you gladly returned before she went to hug the others in your group. “Oh, everybody I love is in the same room, oh. Where’s Joey?” She turned to all of you, asking a very good question. Where the hell was Joey. But when no one could answer her, Phoebe’s smile fell. The awkward silence didn’t make the situation any better.
“Did you see Betty?” Chandler tried to cheer the woman up by showing her her friend again, but it didn’t seem to work this time, as Phoebe just chose to rest her head on your shoulder. You were honestly going to just kill Joey at this point, you thought. But you would never go through with it. You loved him too much, and you knew that Phoebe did too.
*******
You tried to keep your anger that you felt at Joey inside, you wanted to wait until you saw him. But the whole next day it just kept festering, when the next night came rolling around the anger had taken over and you had found yourself barging into your brother’s and Joey’s apartment. You were loud enough to get both of them jumping up in their seats on the sofa. Chandler looked scared at how mad you were, he already knew how mad you were the previous night. Well apparently the monster took over. “Good luck, buddy.” Chandler patted Joey on the shoulder before Chandler grabbed his shoes by the couch and ran out the door, slamming the door in a rush. If you were this mad, then Chandler wanted no part in it. He’s been on the receiving end before, never again. Joey’s face paled slightly as guilt crept into it.
“So, we missed you at the party last night, Joey.” You started as you walked around into the living area. You took your stance in front of the Tv and crossing your arms over your chest.
“Yeah, I’m really sorry about that,” Joey muttered so quiet that you almost couldn’t hear him. He could barely look you in the eye.
“Are you?” You asked. All joking and sarcasm in your mind and tone gone. When it came to not only your heart, but a dear friend’s you could not let that slide.
“I am,” Joey nodded.
“Last night instead of celebrating Phoebe’s birthday like we planned Monica, Rachel, and myself spent hours trying to calm her down because all she wanted was you. Her friend to go to her party and support her when she needed it the most. But you were too involved with her sister to pay attention.” You scoffed and rolled your eyes. Even though you were still pissed beyond belief, you said what you wanted to say. “So, good going Joe. You are not the man I thought you were.” You left him with that. Because Joey knew that you thought the world of him, he was the one you wanted to end up with. But Joey could tell that he hurt you and Phoebe. Maybe he needed to take a look at the people that he was hurting in his life. So he picked up the phone and dialed Ursula’s number, but she wouldn’t pick up. All Joey knew was that he was going to find a way to have Phoebe and you in his life while he was with Ursula. If not, then he would make his choice. And he would be okay with that.
