One of the fun things about watching "Mad About You" season 2 is seeing Lisa Kudrow make her debut as The Waitress in episode 4 ("Married to the Job") subsequently given the name Ursula in episode "Natural History". Of course, she'll be given a last name and an identical twin sister and a bunch of additional adventures on a different TV show.
And the more I think about it the weirder I think this is. I have a hard time thinking of other examples of "recurring character in one TV show becomes recurring character in other TV show". The only other examples I can think of are "Star Trek" ones (Q or Gowron showing up on other shows after TNG) but that still feels a bit different because those shows are all essentially spinoffs of each other and are very consciously part of the same universe. But "Friends" isn't a "Mad About You" spinoff. Ursula just sort of migrated over there.
The One With The Two Parts Part One: Part Three (Not Okay)
Here is Part Three of this episode. I hope y’all enjoy!!!! I love all of you so much!!!
Last Part (Part Two), Series Masterlist
It was the afternoon after you had gotten off of work and you were sitting in the coffee shop at the counter next Phoebe as Rachel stood across from the both of you, working. “So, Pheebs, what do you want for your birthday?” Rachel asked the blonde while Rachel poured cups of coffee for the both of you to drink.
“Well, What I really want is for my mom to be alive and enjoy it with me, but…” Phoebe said, causing you and Rachel to look at each other with wide eyes and slightly confused at Phoebe’s so straight forward answer that neither of you were expecting.
“Okay….” you spoke. Trying to defused the awkwardness.
“Let me put it this way: Anything from Crabtree and Evelyn?” Rachel switched to a more specific question that would be right up Phoebe’s ally.
“Ooh!” Phoebe shrieked in excitement. “Bath salts would be nice.”
“Oh, okay. Good!” Rachel told her in a similar tone as she took another mug of coffee to another customer. You just shook your head and hid your face in your gigantic coffee mug.
“Hey, do you want to move over to the table by the window?” You asked her when you noticed the man sitting there had left. All of you in your group hated sitting at the counter, it was too much face to face with all of the other workers.
“Sure, just a second.” Phoebe agreed with your plan, then turned to grab a napkin. “Let’s go,” Phoebe and you started walking toward your seat, and while she was taking a sip of coffee a couple of women stopped her causing you to stop in turn.
“Umm... excuse me?” The woman asked as she tapped Phoebe on the shoulder.
“Hi! It’s us.” The woman said with a smile as if that was supposed to mean something to Phoebe.
“Right. And it’s me and her.” Phoebe told the women pointing to her than you. She was trying to be nice but the both of you looked at each other in confusion.
“So you’re here too.” The woman stated.
“As much as you are.” Phoebe bantered back with a shrug.
“Uh, your turn.” The blonde woman muttered to the brunette.
“We know what we want.” The brunette announced to your friend while you stood there completely confused.
“Oh, that’s good.” Phoebe told her.
“All we want is two caffe lattes.” The blonde told Phoebe. Did they think Phoebe was a waitress or something?
“And some biscotti cookies.” The brunette finished for her friend.
“Good choice.” Phoebe told them as she put a hand on your shoulder and started to walk the both of you to the table by the window and you both sat down.
“That was weird.” You told her as the both of you got settled.
“I thought they were nice.” Phoebe told you with a shrug of her shoulders.

After the both of you had your coffee and Rachel had finished work the three of you decided to head up stairs to hang out and see what was going on with Monica and the others. But just walking into the building made you think of Joey on a date with Phoebe’s sister Ursula and now you couldn’t think of anything else. It seemed to be the same for Phoebe, because as you sat on the couch you felt her mood shift to even more sad. So both you and Phoebe sat on the couch moping while Monica, Rachel, and Chandler sat at the table helping Monica crochet. “Buenos noches, John-Boy.” The woman on the tv said at the end of the show as the end credits ran up the screen. “Buenos noches, Marianna,” The man spoke, then you snapped your head in surprise over to Phoebe when the tv all of a sudden went dark. Apparently that was enough of the tv.
“I can’t believe you. You still haven’t told that girl that she doesn’t have a job yet?” You heard Monica ask Chandler as you got up from the couch to get a drink.
“Well, you still haven’t taken down the Christmas lights.” Chandler tried to argue at her.
“Congratulations, I think you’ve found the world's thinnest argument.” Monica pointed out to the man.
“I’m just trying to find the right moment.” Chandler expressed to all of you, but he saw the face you made whenever you were trying to call him out on a lie.
“Well, that shouldn’t be so hard now that you’re dating. Sweetheart, you’re fired,” Rachel started role playing their situation. “But how about a quickie before I go to work.”
“Hey,” Joey greeted all of you as he walked into the apartment with a shopping bag in his hands. He closed the door behind him as the others greeted him. But before the man could barely take two steps into the kitchen a knock came at the door, making him turn and look at it in confusion.
“You know, once you’re inside you don’t have to knock anymore.” Chandler funnily told the man.
“I’ll get it,” Monica said with a smile as she got up not realizing that she had Rachel and Chandler being pulled behind her with yarn in their hands. They were trying to help her keep it untangled, but now as they fell toward the door after Monica they almost knocked you and Joey down. Thankfully, Joey was there to grab your shoulder and bring you back with him before you could fall on your face. You turned to smile at him thanks, before blushing and looking away. “Oh, hi, Mr. Heckles.” She greeted the grumpy hermit from downstairs.
“You’re doing it again.” He told her, sounding very annoyed.
“Doing what?” We’re not doing anything. We’re just sitting around talking. Quietly.” Monica reassured the man
“I can hear you through the ceiling.” Mr. Heckles told her, looking up at the ceiling for emphasis. “My cats can’t sleep.”
“You don’t even have cats.” Rachel challenged the older man by telling him what you all already knew. But Mr. Heckle’s just had to be his crazy self and one up her.
“I could have cats.” Mr. Heckles challenged her right back.
“Goodbye, Mr. Heckles.” Monica told him.
“We’ll try to keep it down.” Rachel yelled as Monica started closing the door. Joey shook his head clear of what happened and walked over to the woman he wanted to see. You sat up in the arm chair thinking that he was finally going to be an adult and talk to you, but he went up to Phoebe. Maybe he just had a birthday gift, you thought.
“Phoebe, could you do me a favor?” Joey asked as he set the bag down and took a seat on the coffee table across from her. “Would you try this on? I want to make sure it fits.” Joey took out a box that the store workers put clothes in as gifts and it looked like it was from Bloomingdales, so it was probably something pretty nice.
“Oh, my first birthday present!” Phoebe cheered as she took the sweater from Joey and held it against her front to test the size.
“Oh, no, no, no. It’s for Ursula.” Joey smiled when he told her. How much of an idiot could he be? It was such a rude and selfish thing to do. You couldn’t help your jaw drop as you glared over at him in disappointed surprise. “You know, I just figured size-wise.” Joey explained, wearing a bright smile when he thought that this was a genius plan. Phoebe plastered on a fake smile, which you could see passed easily. It was like a glowing beacon how angry she was.
“Oh, sure. Yeah. It fits.” Phoebe stood up and held it to her front before she threw it straight on the ground.
“Are you seeing her again tonight?” Rachel asked the man.
“Yep. Ice Capades.” Joey announced.
“This is serious,” Chandler piped in. “I’ve never known you to pay money for any kind of Capade.”
“I don’t know. I like her, you know. She’s different.” Joey explained as he walked back into the kitchen area. Whereas, you were stuck to your seat. You couldn’t tell if your heart stopped beating, or it just broke for the 10th time this week. So, he was really falling for her, and you were still crazy in love with him. What the hell were you supposed to do? You weren’t sure if your legs would move in order to figure it out. You couldn’t move. “There’s uh, something about her…”
“That you like.” Phoebe answered for him, quick and angry. “We get it. You like her, great!”
“Phoebe, I asked you and you said it was okay.” Joey said to her, not sure what brought about this sudden change of heart.
“Alright, well maybe now it’s not okay.” Phoebe finally told him.
“Okay. Well, maybe I’m not okay with it not being okay.” Joey complained to her, now that Phoebe had suddenly changed her mind.
“Okay,” Phoebe told him trying to stop this conversation, but apparently it was your turn with him.
“What about you?” Joey asked, turning to face you. Causing you to look at him with anger and slight fear. “I know I haven’t talked to you about it yet. But you’re okay with me going out with her, right?” He kept looking at you like you should have been fine with it.
“Oh, yeah, clearly.” You scoffed out your sarcastic answer.
“Great,” Joey smiled clearly not reading your face that he claimed to know so well. “Then can you try the sweater on? You both are actually the same size, too.” You smiled with fake politeness. You bent down and grabbed the sweater with both hands. But instead of trying it on, you chucked it trying to hit his face. Unfortunately, the man was able to catch it and look at you with a hurt expression. You just couldn’t help but shake your head at how much of an idiot he could be as you picked up your purse and headed out the door making sure to slam it behind you. Leaving Joey with a surprised look on his face and Phoebe still looking at him with even more anger for what he was doing not only to her, but to you as well.
“Knit! Good woman! Knit! Knit!” Chandler ordered Monica when she got distracted from her knitting by all the drama that was going on around her, but Chandler was trying his hardest to forget it. Even though he was sure his best friend broke his little sister’s heart.
