Um.... hi? I honestly have no idea what I’m doing here. I’ve wanted to start a studyblr for a while now but it’s a little intimidating and, again, I have no idea what I’m doing. But anyway, my name’s Emily and I’m a third year undergraduate biology student. I’m thinking of double majoring or minoring in Philosophy or Environmental Studies. I’m vegan and I love iced coffee (as evidenced by the picture above), almond butter, puppy dogs, music, nature, and lots of other things. Feel free to come talk to me! I’m pretty nice most of the time. :)

Intro: Hello everyone! I’m fairly new to the Studyblr community, but I decided to make one as part of the whole ‘new year, new me, new study habits’ jig that everyone does. I’m really excited to be part of this community (everyone seems so nice, and they’re all like organized and getting straight As)! One thing that I did notice when I was stalking observing other Studyblrs is that there isn’t a whole lot of resources for students with ADHD, so I’m hoping my blog can help on that front. On another note, I’m looking for a study buddy (a friend for skype study sessions, and we can chat and ask questions and make sure that we’re like focussing on our homework), so please message me if you’re interested!

About me

- I go by Margot (that rhymed!)

- I’m 15, and go to a STEM magnet school in Washington DC

- I’m a highschool freshman

- I’m hella gay (and hella single ;))))))

Interests / Fun Facts

- I rotate between Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Gryffindor (I’ve literally taken the Pottermore test 18 times, and the results change every time). My Ilvermony house is Wampus/Thunderbird, and my patronus is a white stallion.

- I don’t even like STEM that much (complete humanities kid right here), but I applied and got in to TJHSST in order to spite my old classmates, who said that I wouldn’t make it. I’m a really petty person, in case you haven’t picked up on that yet.

- As an ambivert, I rotate between ENTP and INTP

- I have ADHD (Inattentive type), hence why my profile picture says ADHD Studying (all of the adhd-studyblr related URLs were already taken). There’s a lot of stigma surrounding people with ADHD, so I’m here to say that I have ADHD and I’m proud. It doesn’t make me unintelligent (I have an IQ of 142, thank you very much), and it most certainly exists within both girls and asians. I’m trying really hard to tamp down my inattention and scattermindedness, and it’s a lot better today than it was even a year or two back.

- I love doing vintage hairstyles (which is really ironic, because it would have sucked being Chinese in 1950s America), so I chose Victory Rolls as my blog url

- I’m Chinese-Korean (but there isn’t a lot of emphasis on the Korean part within my family. I don’t know Korean, I don’t really watch K-dramas or listen to K-pop, and I have a vague understanding of how Korean barbecues work)

- I have a personal/travel writing blog! if you want little funny stories, journal entries, travel writing, and tales of my (failed) romantic escapades, check it out

- My favorite books are A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Hamlet, my favorite TV shows are CSI and Bob’s Burgers, and my favorite musicians are LOLO, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, SHINee, Eagles, Queen, and Beyoncé

- I’m interested in neuroscience, political science, history, writing/literature, virology, and art

- I’m planning to work my way up the political ladder, and my life goal is to become a congresswoman

- I speak English, Chinese, Latin, and I’m learning ASL, French, and Gaelic (I would marry Duolingo if I could)

- Panera Bread’s mango smoothie and the Hibiscus and Berry Honest Tea are what keep me running throughout the day

- trump can go back to where he came from and burn in hell

- I’m hoping to improve my grades and my life with the help of a studyblr, and help other people do the same. I’ve been given the “If only you applied yourself” speech from teachers more times than I can keep track of, and the simple answer is that I guess I don’t know how to apply myself just yet. My hope is for the studyblr community to help me find the mystical way of how to “apply myself” (help me studyblr community....you’re my only ho)

I’m just trying to get through this week, and I have Little Leia to help me out.

Pow-wow time: I’ve struggled with mental illness for many years now. I’ve had ups and downs, as we all have, and I’ve powered through to the best of my ability. As I get closer and closer to college, however, balancing self-care and school has only gotten more difficult. When I moved to a new high school last year, I was pumped. It was highly ranked in the state - especially in comparison to the school I was previously at - and seemed much more my speed. The classes are weighted harder, the work is rigorous ten-fold, the students are the exact type of competition I was looking for. I’ve realized, though, that in my other district I was able to bs my way to a 4.0 and a place at the top because it was too easy. I never had to study, I could get away with not doing a few homework assignments, etc. Now I’m in a completely opposing position and although it’s my second year in, it still drives me crazy and, at times, makes me feel completely incompetent. I’m doing well for someone who went through such a drastic transition, but I still feel as though I should be doing better. I should  b e  better. 

Part of that is the mental illness. The bigger part, I think, is coping with the stark differences between the two school districts. I used to be a big fish in a pond of little fish, and now I’m the same sized fish in a pond with a variety of prey and predator. Some fish are like me, others are bigger; I’ve never experienced that before. 

I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get on medication soon. Just to try it out, ya know? The way(s) I’ve always dealt with it all just don’t seem to be working anymore, and I know that’s okay. If I need medication to function, that’s okay. If I need a break a little more often than other people, that’s okay, too. I have to do what’s best for me.
