‣ BIOGRAPHY ↴
Barret Edwin Wellington was born into the upper-class Wellington family in Greenwich, Connecticut, but has always just been Edwin to his friends and family. He was the youngest of the family and doted upon, often showing his smarts and never scolded for his adventurous actions that he often copied from older brother Denon. Whilst his rich family could provide enough toys and entertainment to keep him from being bored, the same could not be said for the elementary school he went to, his eidetic memory making the workload easy. It was boring for him during the day but he put up with it, the slow pace and easy workload allowing him to work on other (more important in his eyes) things when he went home. It was here that he started to find himself alone more often than not. When he was twelve, his youngest brother Quentin was born, and the baby of the family was replaced. What used to be seen as cute was now annoying and rude, so Edwin started to drift from his family, especially after a few comments he made when he was fourteen at his grandparents’ funeral. However, with his parents being older than almost any other in the country, he helped to raise his baby brother, even if he held a slight resentment towards him and often acted coldly.
Edwin excelled through the work in high school quickly but did not graduate much earlier like other members of his family. Instead, he made sure to pace his work as he’d found the spare time to do other things useful. He finally moved on at seventeen, bored and moved to New York for college at NYU. His parents paid for a lavish apartment, but he chose a smaller one, spending the rest of the money on other interesting things he wished to have. His study of English Literature only took just over a year, but as he had missed the graduation date by then he would have to wait an extra nine months. So he also decided to throw in a Bachelors in Psychology, a subject he’d go on to study more. During his time in New York, Edwin took a job working for a businessman in his private security detail, using his ability to read people to determine security issues. An incident led to a discussion with a cop named Marcus who noticed Edwin’s ‘gift’ and the two went on to consult with each other. By age twenty-four, Edwin had finished with university, having completed his doctorate in psychology, and masters in English Literature and Biology. Instead of returning home, though, he stayed in New York, a city he found busy enough to keep him entertained and pushing him to hit new goals.
When he was twenty-six, Edwin received a knock at the door from the FBI. Marcus had been killed, and his name had appeared in several places in several files. He was detained as a suspect but was able to hire himself a lawyer with his own earned money, rather than get his parents involved or let them know in any way. After proving his innocence and putting his brilliant mind to use to assist in analyzing the mental state and logic of all the other suspects, the true criminal was caught and he was offered a job. Edwin agreed and began work for them in New York. Then, at twenty-eight, his parents died. He’d had hardly any contact with them over the years, so didn’t have the same relationship with them that other members of his family did, but he was still saddened and still flew out to the funeral and support his family. Unable to reveal his true career, Edwin informed them he was writing for a career and working on a series of novels.
He returned to New York, continuing his career with the FBI until his mid-thirties. When Denon started his publishing company and asked Edwin if he wished his series to be published, the man agreed but required something to actually be published. In a few weeks, he whipped up a very basic yet detailed and what would come to be highly recognized novel, based on a few of the cases he’d worked on. At thirty-seven, he decided it was time to leave New York and moved to Los Angeles in an attempt to get to know his family better and be more open. Edwin preferred living alone, moving into an apartment which soon became chaotic looking to others but was ordered to him. A cold, rude and often abrupt man, Edwin made little friends, both in New York and in Los Angeles. Even with a doctorate in psychology and genius level IQ it was difficult for the man to actually understand and get along with people, often insulting them, so with his move to Los Angeles, he made the decision to hold back on most comments, and attempt to be more open and welcoming rather than simply dismissive.
Having been in the city for a year now, and growing closer with his family, he joined this site to get to know others and perhaps find someone he could get to know intimately. However, while continuing to write his thirteenth and final book of his series, he finds the FBI raising their need to have him consult with suspects, something he is struggling to give up because he enjoys it but knows the dangers of letting an aspect of a crime or criminal slip into one of his novels. Joining this social network was merely a means of studying people and passing the time when he has writer's block. His family in the state, however, hopes it will give him a dose of what he is missing romantically or even just socially.
