Unbelievable story!
“Don’t be afraid to go in new directions. Share, collaborate, and give away ideas and results freely.” Happy birthday to #PBKMember Jane S. Richardson, an American #biophysicist and professor who developed the Richardson diagram, or ribbon diagram, method of representing the 3D structure of proteins. (You can learn more about her work on @biophysicalsociety's website.) #science #womeninscience
Carl R. Woese, an American microbiologist and biophysicist, was born on this day in 1928. Woese and fellow scientist George Fox are known for discovering the existence of Archaebacteria (which Woese later deemed “Archaea”) in the 1970s. Woese’s research on Archaea is considered to be some of the most influential in microbiology. His discovery has influenced further study into Archaea and, in the past 20 years, scientists have come to learn that Archaea represent a major proportion of microbial biomass on the planet and make unique and essential contributions to biogeochemical cycles.
