💓 Ultrasonic sensor capable enables cuffless, non-invasive blood pressure measurement
A new technology has been developed that enables cuffless noninvasive blood pressure monitoring by using ultrasonic to track real-time chang
8th December - EMG Workshop
Today at Goldsmiths University I attended a workshop around using Electromyography (EMG) as creative muscle sensors. Atau Tanaka lead the discussion by describing how the body produces it’s energy.
For a gesture to be recognised, as we tense our arms our brain sends messages over to the nerves which connect to our muscle. From here, our synapses fire unpredictably and send a signal through to our skin layer to the EMG via pads placed on parts of the body.
I learnt that by placing a positive and negative node on each elbow crease on each arm and the ground on a boney part of the body, I would then be able to capture the heartbeat by taking the differential signal of both the positive and negative nodes. This is because it measures a particular group of muscles between the two nodes, in this case the full torso.
We described also some types of embodied interactions, in particular volitional movement, when an intended movement over time wants to be classified, a Gesture. And also, static gestures or Postures.
Feature extraction options seems to be implementing a windowed averaging across 10/12 sections of the length in the ‘Search Space’, across our buffer of EMG signals.
Interface 2015
Great tool to play with biosignals - biomedical shield for arduino
Great tool to play with biosignals – biomedical shield for arduino
Medical equipment is expensive and not always accessible for wide audience. In fact in any biomedical measuring instrument there are nothing very special – here you can find ADC, analog front-end with low noise op-amp, some sort of controller. But the main part what makes it different from consumer electronics is safety. Because device is connected to your body through some sort of electrodes,…

Perched on the wearer’s shoulders are animated robotic limbs that eerily crawl around the body.
The robotic dress both incites the curiosity of passersby by coyly dancing around the wearer’s body, while at the same time protecting the wearer if somebody approaches too fast or comes too close.
