Mini review: I thoroughly enjoyed The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, which I cannot say for most YA fiction. I think this novel is important. At first I was hesitant to read it, having already seen so much tragedy in the news. But this is one of the novel’s great strengths: fleshing out the lives of those who are touched by tragedy. The characters are real and strong, with distinct voices that affirm life, love, and family. They may even make you want to raise your own voice to make a difference.
