Tips for Schooling Online When You Have ADHD
I just finished my semester up two weeks ago where I was forced to do my schooling online. Having ADHD, this was pretty difficult for me. Despite my GPA dropping a few points, I made it with mostly good grades. Here are some habits that helped me!
1) Have a schedule with realistic goals. Space out your work into as many days as you can while trying to get around the same amount of work each day.
2) Start at around the same time everyday!
3) When you start, try not to stop until you’re done. I know this isn’t a tip for most people, but with ADHDers like myself, stopping your inertia can be disastrous.
4) Have a morning routine. This sounds kind of off-topic, but I found that getting up and getting ready for school every morning even though I never left my house helped “trick” my brain into a state similar to being on campus.
5) Have a checklist. Guilt yourself into getting things done, seriously.
However, despite the last checkpoint...
6) BE FORGIVING
This is a hard time, and your teachers/professors should be pretty understanding. It's all about finding a balance between taking care of yourself and getting your work done, and there WILL be trial and error!
