what was your family like?
My parents were really wonderful. My father was a ranger, the only child of the head of our clan, and he married my mother when they were both young. I think they wanted to have children early on, but ended up waiting for a good few decades.
My father taught me how to shoot. He was a quiet man, but the early mornings spent trying to hit targets while my mother read not far spoke volumes. He was gentle and when I was nearing the age that we would start moving on to live targets he moved my studies on to one of the mentors the elders picked out for me. He disliked killing, it was something he was never quite able to stomach. My mother was the same way. Neither of them would even eat meat from killed game. They weren’t really given control over whether or not I followed suit but it was one of the first things I changed once I was on my own.
My mother was quiet in a different way than my father. It was almost like she was always waiting for something to happen. I suppose she was right. We spent a lot of time together, she used to read to me late at night when my father was at meeting or away on small quests. She was understanding in a way that never came across in the moment but later when remembering her.
After my parents left on one of those quests and didn’t return (vague and nonspecific, I know) my family changed to being mostly made up of two of my mentors. I believe I’ve mentioned them before, Varis and Ivellios. They reminded me a lot of my parents and were so kind to me during the rest of my time with the clan. I miss them. More than I can possibly put into words.
