Am I drawing fanart for my Hux/Mitaka fanfic instead of writing its next chapter? You bet!
Mitaka looks like a sickly Victorian child in my head and I’m not sorry. Lowkey inspired by how beaten up Seb Armesto looked in that one episode of Gold Digger
Shameless plug to my AO3 under the cut. Fair warning: it’s canon-divergent, extremely self-indulgent, and born entirely from my desire to read Le Carré in space.
Mitaka: Alive?
So @irrationalgame , bless them, brought these couple of panels from Journey to Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker; Allegiance - Issue #1 to my attention:
Now, this comic is meant to take place in-between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Unfortunately I don’t have the primary source on hand, but Pablo Hidalgo stated in a tweet, I believe back in 2016, that Lieutenant Mitaka died on Starkiller in The Force Awakens. The canonicity of a tweet may be dubious, but those are the words of Pablo Hidalgo.
Nevertheless, I am almost absolutely certain that it is Mitaka being depicted here, incidentally or not.
For one, this character is a lieutenant on the Finalizer and reports directly to Hux, like Mitaka.
Secondly, this character very much looks like Mitaka, with dark hair and, even, Sebastian Armesto’s famously doe-like eyes.
Thirdly, and most damning in my mind — notice that the officer is tugging at his collar in the second panel as he nervously speaks to Ren. It’s very reasonable to believe that this is a reference to Ren choking Mitaka in The Force Awakens, and Mitaka is experiencing some unpleasant flashbacks in this confrontation with now-Supreme Leader Ren.
So, let’s all be honest — this is very, very likely just a simple canonicity mistake. Either the writers/artists didn’t get the memo from Hidalgo that Mitaka died on Starkiller, or the writers/artist weren’t even aware that they were depicting Mitaka, just incidentally choosing his likeness among random First Order officers, unaware of his ‘canon’ death. But in any matter, it makes my heart so, so happy to know that, at least in this canon, our little Lieutenant is alive and well 💛💛💛
Episode XXIV
Say 'Hello' to Mitaka. Needless to say he's not exactly Ben's biggest fan ... (he might have a little crush on Hux though hehe) more [or click here for more roommate shenanigans]
