TumblrCreatedConlang Neography
There were two winners to the neography poll which I chose to resolve with this bit of lore, the Legend of the founding of Ze sivír-'ómva-te'épot-dneví-sehí-húdo-re is:
Long ago, one of the great elven cities over the seas allowed a university of magic to be founded within its boundaries and things were good for a few years. There were complaints about citizens turning into chickens but nothing serious enough to endanger the budding the university until one small accident in a class melted half the city including the King's Palace.
The university and it students were thrown from the city at sword point and most of the students a teachers scattered but a small number ended up on a trade vessel headed to Settlement 1. As they rounded the point and the Black Mountain came in view, the Great Magar had a vision of a university free of Kings and cities.
The, at the time, Lord of Settlement 1 agreed to allow them use of the mountain for taxes and the language of tuition to be the language of Settlement at the time of founding, for it amused for elven lords to be taught in the tongue of the orcs.
As a result there are two writing systems in use. The system below which is in everyday use and reflects a relatively recent spelling reform that tracks with the standard pronunciation of the dialect of Settlement 1 and a historic system from when the university was founded that is still the language of instruction and literature.
The small dots on each glyph reflect the draft nature of this font. The script is inspired by the Futhark and the modern script is curvilinear to reflect the use of velum and quills rather than being purely/predominantly carved.
I work in Birdfont as a font editor and Linearity Curve as a vector editor because I am poor and can't afford FontLab. This means I couldn't work out how to cleanly implement a CC(V/N)CC syllable structure with coda and nucleus nasals.
