Class work for ornithology :)) this class has been such a joy. We go birding every Friday morning and I’ve met so many lovely people!
Spying on birds during my lunch break (in this case a half-fledged Great Horned Owl)
I went birdwatching today and on my way back I saw a Greater yellowlegs chilling on a telephone wire next to an American kestrel. I didn’t even know they could physically do that
I think I saw a Rough-legged Hawk when I went birdwatching today! At first I thought it must have been a leucistic hawk since I’ve never seen one that was so white before, but it turns out they come in a light colored morph which wasn’t listed in my field guide. It’s always great when you snag a lifer :)
Heard a pair of Great Horned Owls having a duet last night! This is this first time I’ve been able to confirm an owl species by ear, since most of the time it’s like “wait, was that an owl? guess it’s gone now”. It sounded like they were pretty close, but unfortunately I couldn’t get a visual on them.
