Well, a day after being bowled over by Soft Covers, I'm going to get hyperbolic about yet another Australian group.
Birdpop are a 4-piece Melbourne band that really defy comparisons. The way I felt the first time I listened to "Guess What?!" reminds me of how I felt when I listened to You Beauty "Jersey Flegg". I love the music and really exceeded any expectation I might have.
So, yes, this is Australian and it is mastered by Mikey Young. And yes, it is produced by Dylan Young who has worked with Cool Sounds and Snowy Band.
But this has more of a jam/blues/psych rock feel than your typical Aussie fare. In some ways it has the same vibe as some of early sounds of Love or The Rolling Stones. I just get more of a 1960s rock feel.
This looks to be self-released.
