would you be comfortable talking more about your opinion on the nuance of proship vs antiship?
i feel like a lot of people dont understand that nuance like at all so id love to hear your take on it
of course! usually i wouldn't but i'm really bored right now and this is a great way to kill time before the season finale drops. to preface, i would like to lay some concrete facts out to prevent any future misunderstandings/fend off any future attackers:
1) i am not into, and do not condone nor support incest, SA, pedophilia, or any of the standard "proship" things. art imitates life, and life imitates art.
2) everyone owes EVERYONE respect. no matter who they are, you owe them respect. everyone. you can hate them with all your heart, but you still have to respect them.
3) i am an environmentalist and active steward so i do touch a lot of grass. and have probably planted more trees than anyone who may or may not get mad at this post. coughs into my elbow

first and foremost point that i wholeheartedly believe in, and nobody can convince me otherwise: the words "proshipper" and "antishipper" are top ten most useless contributions to society. they are stupid names that don't have to exist. just say you're into incest porn if you are there’s no need to add all this glitter and sparkles. i will also never, ever call myself an "antishipper". even if that's what i technically am. because it's a dumb fucking thing to call myself.
naming things is fun, and it can help you organize your thoughts and emotions. it's a confusing time, and having clean and tidy labels to fall back on is comforting. i understand that. but giving shit like this a name and, God forbid, making it an identity... it just divides people into clean-cut teams and is such an easy way to fall into an us vs. them mindset, which is SO FUCKING DANGEROUS in this day and age. we can't afford division. humanity doesn't exist in a void, we exist in our setting---and that's why there's SO MUCH INFIGHTING online and in person nowadays. it's why men are lonely and people can't read and society is going backwards. it's not just out of nowhere.
i guarantee 97% of the people reading this, upon seeing the word "proshipper" or "antishipper" or whatever in someone's bio, feels instant revulsion and thinks "this is the enemy". which is reasonable, i mean, what i see a lot of people doing (on both sides) is just pure, violent harassment. but it's a dangerous mindset to fall back on, because then we start dehumanizing people, and i cannot stress enough how we cannot afford to do that.
this is the biggest point i try to push, and also why i don't usually comment on proship or whatever. we can't lock ourselves in echo chambers and chant about how much more superior we are, even if that is what we truly think.
if we want to make the internet a truly free place where everyone can speak their minds, we have to accept that freedom comes in all forms, even forms we would never imagine freedom to take. censorship is a slippery slope. take it from me, i'm chinese.
that's my thought on the overall concept, and how i usually respond when i'm asked about the issue. but i'll also talk briefly about the morality of it, which is where people usually go and probably what anon meant when shooting the ask lol
first and foremost people can do whatever the hell they want man i'll just block and pretend i didn't see it
but also i think it's gross man this is where i'm a little less logical about it. the thing is, i actually really enjoy dark media and dark topics. one thing i've been noticing recently is everything has been getting more and more sterilized. like oh yeah sure everything is nice and comfortable... but we don't live in a nice and comfortable world?? we need media that addresses things like rape and incest and pedophilia. it exists in the real world, we can't just kick it under the rug and pretend things are all sunshine and rainbows
but the problem i have with proship is the typical shit yk. the glorification, sexualization, yadda yadda yadda. i don't actually have a problem with the topics they address, i just have a problem with how they handle it. every story has a moral, like it or not, and typically morals should be... you know... good ones.
the biggest topic i see people yakking about is the effect media has on reality. which is a nothing burger fight. of fucking course media has an effect on reality albert fish started sticking pins into his pelvis because he saw a cross section of a dick in a wax museum what the hell are we waffling about
the thing about shit like this is it's dangerous. kids can see things like this and start craving and wanting for it and end up dead on the street. i don't give a fuck if you goon to harry potter x severus snape, but i start giving a fuck when kids start thinking it's hot and chase after their pedo teachers. we cannot exist in a void, everything we do has an effect on who we are
also labeling theory ?? in psychology there's a theory that states how actions themselves are not "right" or "wrong", but rather dictated by the reactions of others. if we start normalizing this shit it'll become the norm. IT WILL HAPPEN. and i don't want to live in a world like that sorry
but i think the biggest takeaway from all this is people should just shut the fuck up and mind their own businesses forever. yall think a death threat is gonna make someone stop gooning to incest 😭😭 gang theyre gonna start gooning HARDER. and then they'll goon to your rage too. just leave people alone and plant a tree every time you get mad i think the world would be so much better if that's what people did
plus nobody gives a shit irl. my physics partner was super into harry potter x tom riddle but she did some damn good calculations so i did not care
