"Captivated." - A Descending Birds one shot
(First time writing one of these characters so give me a little bit of grace, I might not find my groove right away. Descending Birds is a Birds of Paradise AU created by @peanut-creature The OCs featured in this one shot belong to both Peanut and @literally-iris, who actually requested this one shot. I hope you all enjoy!)
It was a rare and almost odd thing for the two young women to be found outside of the fairy world at any given point. For both of them to be outside of it at the same time? Call it what it is.
Unheard of.
They sat side by side on the edge of a bridge that sat not too terribly far above water, taking turns sipping from a bottle of gas station one of them had undoubtedly stolen. The sun was setting on whatever part of the human world they found themselves in, not bothering to ask due to not caring to know. They seemed perfectly content to bask in each other's company, even if such an act created a significant amount of unspoken tension.
Kanon always found herself caught up on the sheer outrageousness that was Bast, who spoke with no regard for anyone, sometimes not even herself and acted on purely masochistic impulses. It was shocking how she could do such things with nothing more than a smile or a tantalizing laugh.
It was even more shocking that Kanon couldn't look away.
They worked well together as a pair, though they rarely found each other indulging in the other's company this way. Kanon often found herself encouraging Bast's behavior, getting some kind of thrill each and every time she got that crazy look in her eyes.
Bast swung her legs back and forth as they dangled off the side of the bridge, setting the bottle to the side. She peered down at the water and smiled, "If I jumped, would you catch me?"
"Bitch, are you insane?" Kanon asked, keeping the incredulousness out of her tone. Any doubt thrown Bast's way, and she'd do everything in her power to prove that, that was one mistake you ought to not make a second time. "Asteria'd be pissed if you jumped."
"Asteria's...not here." Bast said almost too pleasantly as she stood up suddenly.
Kanon didn't try to stop her, merely staring up at her with a little grin of her own.
Bast leaned down, her smirk deepening as she asked, "You'd really let me do it?"
Kanon leaned forward just a little more and merely hummed in reply, watching Bast's eyes flash with dangerous delight. Internally, Kanon was a bit nervous that she'd take a leap into the shallow water beneath them. She'd never admit that to Bast, the same way she struggled to admit it to herself. Bast's eccentric and devil-may-care attitude had Kanon's adrenaline spiking constantly, giving into a craving she didn't know she had. It's what made them such a powerful duo. They fed off of each other like twisted little parasites, neither of them willing to let go if it meant the high would stop.
Nevertheless, Bast plopped back down beside Kanon, opting let the empty wine bottle go for a swim in her place. She merely said, "I guess I don't feel like it today."
Kanon didn't get time to respond or pivot the conversation in any particular direction before Bast was up again and climbing back onto the other side of the bridge, her cheery, unhinged laugh ringing out about nothing in particular.
Bast looked back at Kanon expectantly, with a look in her eyes that begged to be followed. Chased, even.
And, once again, Kanon couldn't make herself look away as she, too, crossed back onto the main platform of the bridge, the two young women walking side by side into whatever hell they might bring onto whichever poor souls dared to cross them and ruin their good mood.
(Okay, writing this was actually a lot of fun! I hope I did both characters justice and characterized them and their dynamic properly! I hope you enjoyed this one! ^^)
