One of the first birdwatching trips I worked hard to undertake was to Sri Lanka 3.5 years ago. -- My little bird-minded mind exploded the second I flew in. Imagine a country only just smaller than Tasmania but within it contained 450-odd species of birds. Almost double the amount that are present in Tasmania. It was bird heaven! -- I immediately started sketching when I got there (even though I was staying in a guest house with only a fan, sweat dripping onto my paper) and I have since returned to the beautiful island twice. -- Sri Lanka has directly inspired about 20 of my illustrations and I even managed to write and illustrate a topical little artist book (now thankfully out of print), and from that, I was lucky enough to be part of a residency that saw me illustrate 6 endemic and rare bird species while staying in the glorious @ashburnhamestate. They were some of my finest bird illustrations to date. -- I think about Sri Lanka a lot. Almost daily.
